lost and in need

Published

I am a nursing graduate, worked as an RN in UK and loving it. I recenty moved here in CA to start a new life as a family woman. With all the not so good scenarios about my new found family, i needed to help my husband to earn money and try to make both ends meet. i recently tried taking nclex but wasnt so fortunate. altho the result hasnt been released yet, i am not really that positive about the result but still hopeful tho.

anyways, i have been trying to look for a job. and i finally realized that it is difficult to find a job with my present qualification (non RN, not either a CNA). I have been submitting resumes, caling agencies and hospital, engine searches on the net and even home health care/nursing homes for any job available with no luck at all.i find it so frustrating. Local stores doesnt wanna employ me either i am over qualified or i need to speak spanish as a 2nd language. i dont know what to do anymore. i am in deep need of job. i just felt i wanna cry now. as much as i wanna be certified on a certain field, i just dont have enough resources financially to do it. pls advise...even if i have been here in US for over a year now, i still consider myself new here since the 1st year is spent with buiding my famiy together and sorting husband's familial problems... we finally won his brother's guardianship and now it is my turn to have a job of my own. and really dont know my options.what is the available job for a nursing graduate(non RN)?..thanks

Like Turdy said earlier, where theres a will, theres a way. You'll find your nitch and settle down successfully. Also California is far more expensive to live in compared to Florida. At least thats what i'v been told, maybe you could take that job in Florida and rack in some cash quickly. Anyways the best of luck to ya!

Leilah75, Tazzi's right... you can make excellent extra cash in the serving field. I just stopped being a lane server at a bowling alley. Did that for 10 years, in addition to being a unit coordinator on a Peds/gyn unit. I don't think I ever walked out of there without at least $130 in tips (for about 4-5 hours 6pm to 10 or 11pm), after tipping other wait staff, etc. It's hard work, but if you're personable, you'll go far! I choose being a lane server for several reasons.. 1) Love bowling and bowl on leagues myself, 2) Always have customers! Worked the league time. and best 3) Had the same customers year after year, week after week... got to know every one's likes, dislikes and gauge their drinking patterns... which of course made me a much better server, and the tips rolled in. Now I bowl on a Men's league with the customers I waited on for 10 years! It's a blast!

yes. i spoke to them couple of times different areas...and to the 2 major hospital in here and they turned me down. they expressed interest at first but when they see my resume, the always ask me to pursue nursing and pass nclex. frustrating really. they all say i am over qualified.it is good really and drives me to never quit with nclex but i really need the job whatever it is...sigh...

one recruiter told me which area i wanna work i said OR and she said since i dont have experience in OR she will put me in surgery for a year to train in OR. i said i am not applying for nursing job because i am not yet qualified. she said when i qualify give her a ring. i told her, i need the job right now ma'am. it ill help me review and learn more plus it ill help me financially for the test prep. and she kept on insisting nursing...then i asked her are you going to hire me ma'am as a NA? (am i bad asking her that?) she said oh dear, you are over quaified for that and under qualified to become RN. sigh again:)

I know a couple of girls (RN's) over here from the UK who are working as CNA's whilst waiting to do their NCLEX, it is a shame she wont consider getting you into the system by employing you that way first.

sometimes i wanna think why they say you are over qualified for the job you wanted to apply. Arent they happy that you exceeds their requirements? not really clear to me ei?

Try applying at the Manor Care in Poway. Google Manor Care and look for any of their job openings. I hope this helps. Good luck!
