Los Angeles Pay Rate-Experienced RN

U.S.A. California

Hi everyone!

I have been trying to find a job in a Los Angeles hospital and I do not know what the average pay rate for experience nurse. I have 3.5 years hospital experience (Medical Surgical), BSN, certified in my field. I know some hospitals post their pay but what about the others which do not? I know LA is pretty expensive to live so I want to make sure I am being paid fairly. I was thinking $40-$42/hr as a base pay? Do you use any of the website to help you decide what is a fair wage (i.e. Salary.com) Any help would be appreciated.

Mid 30s to low 40s depending on the institution.

Specializes in telemetry, ICU.

you can use glassdoor.com also to look at specific hospitals and wages

thank you so much!

I would be surprised to see $40 an hour base pay for med surg nursing if by base pay you mean before OT on the last 4 hours.

Do most LA hospitals pay OT for the last 4 hours of the shift?

Specializes in Trauma-Surgical, Case Management, Clinic.

From my experience base pay in So Cal ranges from $31-36. Shift diffs vary. Most hospitals do pay OT on anything over 8 hrs a day. There are some that don't. I have 3 yrs med surg experience and these are rates that I've been offered. I've also worked registry which typically paid $35-41 base with no diff. So Cal is expensive so after taxes it feels like I'm working for peanuts! I know Providence and UCLA post their pay rates online just to give you an idea.
