Los Angeles Harbor City College-RN

Has anyone applied (or planning on applying) to the RN program at LAHC college? Is there a waitlist that you know of? Any comments, tips, or general info on this school is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Congratulations guys! My name is Gina and I'll be 3rd semester when you start. Look me up if you need anything :) As for right now, go have some fun, spend time with important others and cut loose a little because you will not have a whole lot of time for any of the above once school starts. Again, congratulations!

Hello! I'm new to applying to nursing schools. For LAHC, do you need to take the TEAS before you apply? I'm just really confused about that. Thanks!

Hi Supersenior,

Harbor uses a double lottery system, and you are invited to take the TEAS after the

first round.

If you have taken it elsewhere, you can Have the results sent to LAHC. THey use only the

First Attempt at taking the TEAS V.

If you are finished with your pre-reqs, I would reccommend Getting Review Material and Practice Tests

and do a some each day, rather than a big cram session a few days before. I used the ATI Material, took

One online test as an assesment, then studied especially hard for the areas I was weak. There is alot of

Chemistry - Know the periodic Table.

Hi everyone! I got accepted for Fall 2011 as well. I'm excited to meet everyone at orientation! Does anyone know how many people applied and how many were accepted?

Jamie-

Im not sure how many people applied but the class that currently graduated started out with 70 and ended with around 40. Also here is my email if you want to talk about the upcoming fall class: [email protected] If anyone else reads this thread who got into the fall class can email me as well. Its probably a good idea to start getting to know each other. Congrats to you and everyone who got accepted!!

Congratulations to all the new incoming 1st semester students, well done! I was wondering if they gave you guys a date for Orientation yet. I need to go order a new set of fuglies...I mean uniform scrubs and that is the day the company comes in to take orders. Thanks and again grats to all and see you around school :-D

Hi Gina,

Orentation is Friday June 10th, and Vista uniform is suposed to be there. Did you start out with 1 or 2 sets of Uniforms? Which brand of Shoes seemed to work for most of the class ? What other tips for supplies ?

Personally I plan not to buy much at first, then get "supplies" as I figure out what and how much I need.

Otherwise I'll have far too much to carry around.

I' sure I'll have more questions for you after orientation ! :)

thanks,

Millie

I definitely recommend 2 sets of uniforms and you'll want them to be a little roomy. If they are too tight, your seams will unravel because you will be cramming a lot of stuff in your pockets. Mine are thrashed after a year! I bought Dansko shoes. They are super comfy but a little on the pricey side. Most people got Nurse Mates of some kind and are happy enough. Just make sure whatever you get is very comfortable and has good arch support, the days can feel really long and sore feet and legs are no fun.

AT Orientation they will show you a whole rack of books that are required and also those that are recommended. The req and absolute first priority are your Potter & Perry text and Perry & Potter Clinical Guide. You will eventually need a Pathophysiology book and a Drug Guide, but not really until 2nd quarter. There is a good library you can check stuff out of in the nursing building. I would not buy a care plan book until you have checked out a few from there to see which you like. Dosage Calc book, maybe if Math is not your strong point. Almost forgot, you have to also buy the Cho guide for Nursing Process 321 I think it is, which is a teeny book and you'll want to get a good Nursing Diagnosis book to go with it. Those can wait till Fall though. I'd just consider getting the text early and get a head start on your reading...Oxygenation is the first test you take.

Anyway, thanks for the update on when Vista is coming and hope this was helpful.

I got accepted to both but chose Harbor. Do you know me? Which school did you get accepted to?

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this threat, well I am new to California, I will explain. I just moved from Miami to California(Los Angeles), so I have no idea how nursing schools work around here, or which schools should I apply to. I was looking around and realized that my pre-requisites which I completed back in Miami are almost the same as the ones required here, and that TEAS test is also a requirement. I would appreciate if anyone could please help me, and give me some advice in what schools should I apply to, the deadlines for spring 2012 and fall 2012. To be honest any piece of advice will help me a lot.

Thank you in advance!!!!

Hi FCat,

i'am also applying for spring 2012. Go to http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/rnprograms.shtml to select the school in your area approved by the board of registered nursing and try to apply in many community colleges because a lot of them do the lottery system to select students
