Hi Everyone. Just wondered if anyone else is on the loooong waiting list for LCCC. How long have you been there? Are all of your support classes done? When do you expect to get in?
Myself, I'm done with support classes and applied in May. I'm hoping to get in next fall, but who knows!?! It would be nice to meet a few of my future clinical buddies in the meantime, though!
JennyLou,
I can't pm yet, or I would've sent one but I have a question about the CSU transfer... I'm going to make an appointment with an LCCC counselor on Monday (so maybe I'll see him around Christmas?!?) to try and find out exactly where I stand timewise. If he says that I'm not going to be able to get in by next fall, I think I'll apply for the CSU program. I don't have Eng 2 or Chem 2 up to this point - can I still apply to CSU without them and take them at LCCC in the spring do you know? Did you talk to anyone at CSU? Was there anything else that you needed?
Thanks in advance!

Here is a link with the advising info for CSU. http://www.csuohio.edu/nursing/advisingFall2011.html I looked into that program as well, but I'm not sure if it is the right fit for me. Good luck!
Thanks! I'm not sure it's what I want to do, either. I just think that if I'm not going to get in by next fall, it makes sense to look at a BSN in the same time it would take me to get my ADN by the time I get in! I'll know more after I speak to a counselor... After talking to the advisor, I was certain I'd get in by fall, but JennyLou's tale scares me a bit!
Well wantccu, I hope you have a better visit with the counselor than I did. I went in feeling really encouraged and hopeful, only to leave completely defeated and wanting to transfer. Great times. I spoke with a director last week at the college fair they held, and she said that enrollment was going down (as was the "pool") due to people pulling their applications and transferring to Tri-C as they do not have the statistics requirement. So needless to say I was excited and she made it seem that next fall would be probable for me since I'm finishing my last class now. However, the counselor was depressing to say the least.
The meeting started out with him wondering why I was even there since my GPA is "great" he said. I explained that I wanted to make sure I was taking the right classes and wanted some guidance to make sure I am taking the correct classes towards the BSN (I have spoke to someone at Akron, obviously I will speak with them again as they really know this, not the LCCC counselor). He started DISCOURAGING the taking of too many classes towards the BSN (I only have 6 or 7 classes to go). He said that those classes are nothing without the RN. To save money for getting the RN and the BSN can come later. WTH? His advice of what to do while I wait? Enjoy my family. Get a job. Write a flipping book about what to do while waiting for a RN degree. Really? Enjoy my life? Take no classes and just sit and wait for almost 2 years? Yeah, not happening. He basically said it would take a miracle to get into next fall, next SPRING would be more likely and possibly even the fall AFTER that. Holy crap. That is pushing 5-6 years for a flipping 2 year degree! Needless to say that did not make me happy!
Ugh!
Well I don't think I am allowed to name names, but he works with the nursing students regularly I think. His card just says enrollment services. There is a Basic BSN advising session at CSU today @ 2 I'm considering going to. The problem is I'd have to squeeze in the chemistry classes during the spring and the summer and the extra classes I've taken towards the BSN for Akron would be useless. Not to mention the program would be more $$$. *sigh*
I'm so disappointed!
OOOOH - I talked to a nasty, condescending, #### on the phone named ------ (no last name should be okay?) from enrollment services and he said somewhat the same thing - Was it him? I'm going to see ---- the actual counselor on 10/31. I decided that I wouldn't lose heart until i spoke with him... So, keep the faith for a couple of weeks and I'll report back exactly what he has to say.
No, it wasn't either of them. However he was a "counselor" with enrollment services. I use "counselor" because I don't know if I would call him that after his recommendations. I just spoke with the Nursing Program Director and have a call into the Enrollment Dean. The Director confirmed what I was trying to tell the counselor about dual enrollment with Akron and he was clueless with that. I really need some reassurance for the "pool" as there is no way I am waiting until Fall of 2013 to get into the ADN program. Even the Director felt the counselor's other advice was inappropriate.
What a way to flip me out. Here I was all excited to be finished with my 8-week Ethics class only to be defeated.
