Remember the proposal to allow EC grads to endorse into Virginia with 960 hours of RN practice? I revisited the comment section, and was tickled to see the last comment from the Virginia Nurses Association. Go check it out! :D

And if I'm not mistaken, it looks like it's been approved and is effective 12/31/09:

Good to know. I guess that's an okay compromise. KEEP EC ALIVE!!! LOL!

I am absolutely ELATED that I will be able to return to VA and practice. It wont be coming back for at least 4 years---but up to 10....

And I am really not a mathematician....BUT....

"Requiring 960 clinical hours of practice prior to endorsement should be sufficient to determine the safe practice of these graduates, since 960 hours is almost equal to a year of full-time employment. VNA would also support a comparative prospective analysis of any disciplinary actions taken against these nurses compared with a cohort of nurses whose educational programs provided the required 500 clinical hours"

960 hours/40 hours per week=24 weeks, so really you only have to work a little less than 6 months---actually closer to 5...and VA will endorse you....AWESOME!!!!

PS...I keep laughing about the 960 hours=a year thing...

The only thing I could think of was that maybe she was going on the idea that for those who work 12s, 36 hours/week is full-time; but that, minus a couple weeks for vacation, is still 1800 hours. I don't get it, either!

And an update ... I just received this email from EC:

The regulatory amendment that will allow for licensure of Excelsior College associate degree (AD) in nursing graduates with 960 hours of RN practice in another US jurisdiction has been approved and will become effective beginning December 31, 2009. The revised regulation allows an uninterrupted mechanism for licensure for Excelsior graduates. This means if you do not complete the AD in nursing program by the end of 2009, you still have a mechanism for licensure by endorsement in Virginia.

If you have questions about your ability to complete the program by December 31, 2009, please contact your academic advisor.

Please view the proposed text that was approved (http://www.townhall.virginia.gov/L/ViewXML.cfm?textid=3396).
