looking for ways to pay for nursing school

Published

Hello everyone!

Good news!! I've just recently heard that I've gotten into nursing

school!:yeah:I'm extremely excited and will be taking some nursing skills courses before I even begin the program. However, I either need to find some ways to pay for it in the Dallas,TX area or receive a scholarship or grant. (I don't qualify for anything from Federal Government because I have maxed out from another degree. I was told that if I was pursuing a master's program I could get support, but since it is not I can't.) I'm open to several ideas. Some hospitals have said they do reimbursement but you have to have worked there at least a year -but it'll begin in the fall.

Try Salliemae.com. They have all kinds of loans for students and they are nation-wide. I am trying for a unsubsidized loan because my hubby makes just a little over the limit for me to qualify for aid, never mind that we have 3 kids, house and car pymts, bills, etc. I don't know the interest rate, but i just paid off a loan I had for my daughter's Sylvan tuition last Summer and it wasn't bad.

Many hospitals in the DFW area (I'm here too) pay tuition reimbursement for your work in the hospital. Check around to places near you or that you're interested in working (uhh, that's assuming that you can work..that you aren't making good money somewhere else)....

PM me if you want more information. Best of luck.

Congrats on your acceptance! I am also back in school for a second degree. I didn't qualify for grants and needed enough in loans to cover not only tuition but also my living expenses, which now includes car payments, a mortgage, property taxes, etc. Basically, I needed to replace my salary. But it's really frustrating that as non-traditional students (i.e., not 18), we're held to the same cost of attendance standard as normal undergrads. Anyway, I am using Sallie Mae for my private loans - their Signature Student Loan. I have pretty decent credit and I think the rate came in at about 5.25%.

Financing an education on one's own is definitely stressful, on top of a very rigorous program. Especially with gas prices rising! My credit cards are adding up a bit, but I graduate in December and will pay them off after I start working.

Good luck and hang in there!! Just keep telling yourself that you'll be graduating before you know it and paying off all those loans in no time!

I too have Sallie Mae prive loans, and I use them for living expenses and school. They are racking up, but I think its worth it to be able to focus 100 percent of my time on school. I have a low interest rate in the 5% area due to all the intrest cuts recently.

I had to take out student loan to survive. I too have Salliemae. I will need a little more just before graduation but so far Sallie mae loan is paying my tuition plus I got tuition reimbursement from the hospital in which I work.

I just posted in another forum about not ruling out scholarships. They are not always looking for straight A students. I found a few I qualified for and received 2000.00. I knew nothing about scholarships. I bought the book "How to Write a Winning Scholarship Essay" and googled essay samples. Give it a shot. Colleen
