Looking in Scottsdale, AZ

Published

I was researching Scottsdale, AZ for place of residence. It's about 25 miles from phoenix and looks amazing. Any suggestions on apartments that are nice, but not outrageously expensive? And any recommendations on places to work, preferably nicu or labor and delivery but i don't know if they would hire a new grad... Any information would be helpfull. Also is it a good idea to take spanish courses?

I used to live in the Anacosta apartment complex in Scottsdale at 96th Street and Mountain View--it is a hop, skip, and a jump from Scottsdale Shea Hospital which is very convenient if you got a job there. The complex is small too, so it's not as loud and busy as other complexes. Anacosta is also not too far from Mayo Clinic.

When I was looking I found a really nice apartment that was reasonable... I don't know what you think is reasonable, but for Scottsdale it was about $800 for a 2 bedroom. It is Camden San Paloma, at the corner of Shea and Scottsdale road.

Getting a new grad job in a hospital at all is a long shot. Scottsdale is either uber expensive or ghetto and old.

Personally I would look into moving to the East Valley, much more bang for the buck and many, many hospitals.

Where in the east valley do you mean?

Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa

There are many hopsitals and LTCs along the 60 fwy and 202 fwy.

Banner Desert, Banner Gateway, Mountain Vista, Arizona Regional, Banner Baywood, Mountain Vista, Chandler Regional, Mercy Gilbert are all hospitals in the east valley...that I can think of.

Mayo Clinic hospital. Scottsdale is very nice, but very snobby. Make sure it is somewhere you think you might be able to fit into. I, myself, could not even stand going to nursing school there, much less live in that suburb. However, if you are a little more low key and don't have to drive a mercedes and carry a Gucci, Tempe is a nice place to live. Or north Phoenix as well. As far as spanish, you can get by on very little in the hospitals....there is at least 5 people you work with at any given time that are fluent in it that can help you out.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

I'm a new grad who just moved to the area, too. I don't know much about Scottsdale. I live in the East Valley and like it. I'm out by Queen Creek which is a growing place. We also have a new hospital opening soon (Banner Ironwood) but getting a hospital job is nearly impossible. I'm still looking for a job after 3 months...
