This comment is not directed to the OP but how can a directly paid preceptor be neutral. A preceptor paid by an organization that has the mission to educate can have strict standards on student performance. I just wonder if an individual preceptor will just say" the certification test will winnow them out"
Decades ago I knew an NP and her husband in joint practice. She told me that they were not precepting NPs anymore because 'their patients' deserved the best.
This may contradict what I say about the participant of the staff nurses when being on the floor. I am there and in my state a faculty member HAS to be there. The students are not alone and a staff member can discuss the progress or lack of progress with the instructor.
When I had a Walden student who could not arrive on time, etc I was told just pass her. From her Walden faculty "she has children, a full time job and full time school"
