looking for ostomy & continence preceptors

Published

I'm finishing up the courses through WebWOC next week, but don't have a preceptor lined up, and should have the clinical hours completed by Jan 31st. My original plans fell through, and I haven't been able to find an available preceptor in my area (I went through the list, but people had either changed jobs or were busy). I became wound certified a few years ago, and wanted to complete the WOCN certification.

Anyone know of someone (or two) that is available to precept (in Dec or January). I'm currently per diem, and have an open schedule. Licensed in PA, DC and MD (compact). I'm willing to travel. Anyone have suggestions on where I can look?

No, I'm finishing up my project and submitting paperwork. Since the course I took was in Oct-Dec, I feel like I'll need some time to go back and review for the exam. So, hopefully in a month or two. But, the wounds exam seemed pretty rough! I figure these will be similar in difficulty.

I would advise trying for WOC, or at least wound and ostomy. Continence clinical hours are harder to find, but getting it all done at once may be easier/better than just one.

I have been looking for preceptors since nov with no real luck! Uuhhg so so frustrating! I just want to be a WOCN dang it!!! Good luck nurses!!

Wish I could offer advice. The place I went to was through the old contract. And a few hours drive for me.

Got this email reply this morning:

"Kaiser doesn’t have a contract with Web Woc to precept non-Kaiser employees. Currently we have contracts with San Jose State and Emory.

I will not be able to assist you at this time.

Best of luck with your pursuits."

I'm so sad ... you would think the Los Angeles area would be easier to find a preceptor.
