I am planning on applying for the ADN program this coming Spring semester. I am looking for someone that can give me some advice / inside knowledge on the application process and the Hesi exam.
wow-it's crazy to know there are ac students besides me here on an.lol. i posted under the texas tab, but tell me more about the instructors, calculation exams, clinical instuctors. i'm going to apply this fall for the spring '10. i have a review for the math part which it's like you said, basic math, but i was also wondering where to get studying material for the vocabulary part. which semester are you going to be in?
sorry so many questions but i really don't know anyone who's in the program, and all i know is from susan m.
thanks in advance for taking the time to answer our questions.
I am going to bootcamp on Monday 8-17-09 for the nursing program. I am a little frightened as to why they are calling it a bootcamp. I am nervous, but still excited about the nursing program.
I finished all my pre. reqs. last semester with A&P 1 and Microbilogy. It was a big load but I think it will prepare me for what is yet to come. I am have already bought my books, and have read a few of the required reading assignments from the module 1 (lol-I am a dork, but I just want to be prepared).
I am going to be telling a bunch of my classmates anout this site to. It is nice to talk to local nursing stundents.
I have to bring that package that the school makes with the syllabus and rules etc.
I know we are going through it and have to sign the papers that are in it. I hope we get a tour of the place, I am not too familiar with that campus yet. I am already assuming we will be assigned homework that day, so when classes start the following week we go will be prepared to start class. I have already opened my books and have read a few chapters ( I am a dork-LOL).
I am excited yet nervous at the same time. The part that makes me nervous is that will I not have a life for the next 5 semesters.
Hey, I will post more tommorrow...but as far as boot camp goes, it's no big deal. They didn't try to really freak US out or anything, like I think some nursing schools do. They just gave us some handouts about critical thinking and stuff like that, did some ice-breaker activities, took us on a quick tour, etc. I heard you have a one-day BC now, though, and ours was spilt up over two days. Like I say, though, ours wasn't bad.
However...about a week into school you will get the list of videos you are REQUIRED to watch, and will be assigned online assignments, both on Web CT (or whatever they are using now) and a site called MEDS Pub. It is ALOT of busy work. You will have to find time to fit it all in...hope you are good with time management! That was when alot of people got scared, and our instructors joked about passing around the smelling salts. My friend that is a level ahead of me said that at first it's overwhelming, but after 6 or 8 weeks, things start to slow down a little and you begin to wonder if you are forgetting to do something. I have to agree with her on that.

I know, right off hand, of at least 9 people that didn't make it. Two of them dropped before the end of the semester, and two dropped way in the beginning, and I don't know why any of them left. But I know several people that didn't pass, unfortunately.
Honestly, I think alot of people didn't take it that seriously. Some people didn't know it was supposed to be so hard, and just didn't put the effort into studying enough. But I think alot did study hard, and were devastated when they did badly. You just have to go into it knowing that it is not like any other major. It is alot of busy-work (tons of required videos, online stuff, reading, etc.), some of it is hard (esp. if you aren't strong in your sciences), the testing is not like any other testing you have had in the past (not much memorization - lots of application of knowledge, prioritization, etc.), and it's a huge time commitment. I have a friend who did pass, but she partied every weekend, and realized that she is really going to have to stop doing that. I studied every single day, at least a little bit, but alot of people aren't willing to do that. I was also taking A&P II at the same time, though, and actually studied for that class more than I did for Intro and Med terminology. Really make an effort to know the material in A&P because it is crucial to have an understanding of the body to get all this stuff.
I have a friend who is Level II, and she says there are only 70 spots open for those classes! So, looks like we'll lose about 20 more after the fall semester...
