I don't think there's really an "easy" way into nursing school. If there is, it's likely a for profit school (assuming they have those in Canada?) which would likely either be A) very expensive and/or B) would likely have a wait list because of those wanting to take an easy way into nursing school. On top of that, those schools may be questionable.
I'm speaking from personal experience. The program I started in the fall was so easy to get into. I couldn't believe it, though I realized why later down the road. It was more about getting each student's 40k rather than who they admitted. If you didn't have some kind of medical background, it was recommended you take their Medical Assisting course before they'll allow you to enroll in nursing (a way for them to get more money). I've since withdrawn because of the accreditation and lack of decent instruction.
i just want an average school that doesn't need me to basically kill my self trying to study. Also if you think the best way is to go into either LPN/RPN 1st tell me why and give me details if possible.
Not to be rude or mean or anything, but nursing school is not for you if you just want an average school that doesn't require you to basically kill yourself trying to study.
Patient's lives are in your hands. Nursing students kill themselves studying. You have to. The amount of information and the fact that you have to know your stuff. Personally, I wouldn't want a nurse who just skated by in an average school and didn't kill themselves studying. Granted, I'm sure there's no such thing in the nursing world as I don't think they would have passed the program let alone the NCLEX. If you want to get into nursing school, you're going to have to work for it. Even if you get into an average program, you're still going to have to study and work hard at it.
From what I've read on here, LPN/LVN programs tend to be more difficult as the programs are shorter with a ton of information pack into that short period of time.
I know it's awful to have to repeat courses because you slacked off or whatever in high school. I'm paying the price for something similar. I struggled with depression for a very long time. While I did decent in high school, I killed my GPA in college because I wasn't ready and still tried to do it. Twice. Now I'm paying the price for that. I got into the easy program, but I learned quickly that it's not the program to be in. I'm facing the consequences of my actions from 8-10 years ago and am praying I get accepted into the two schools I applied to for fall.
If I fall short and don't get into either, it's the consequence I have to pay for my screw ups. It sucks badly, but the best I can do is move on. Either to another area of study or I can put forth the work of increasing my GPA and prove myself that I am smart and that I would succeed in the program.
I don't say any of this to be mean or inconsiderate, but if you truly want to be a nurse and get through nursing school, you're going to have to put forth the effort and do the work. You're going to have to kill yourself studying. There's tutoring available if you're struggling. You have to take advantage of your resources. But the bottom line is you're going to have to work hard if this is the route you want to go, whether RN or LPN.
I think, first, you need to decide if this is what you really want and if you're ready to the effort and work into it. If you are committed to working hard to achieve this, then you need to research all of the schools in your area to see what their admission requirements are. A lot of schools have different requirements. I wish you the best of luck in whichever road you decide to take!
Practical Nursing Diploma | LPN Programs from Stenberg College
I found this college that i believe to be close to you. Not sure if it is what you want to do or the requirements that you are looking for.
My suggestion is to find a couple schools you like the program in and see what they require to get in.
I was actually quite surprised at what Ontario school looked at for nursing, a lot of them looked at extra-curricular involvement. And not so much grades
I wish you the best of luck with your future studies
What i mean by easy is i just want something more direct route where i dont have to apply to different schools just to get different courses before i can actually apply to the program i wanted to apply to in the 1st place. I think i said it in a wrong way by saying "average" but what i wanted to say was i just want to pass the program in the normal way like applying to a school and doing that course for 4 years without any huge issues in between like needing to transfer to another school. I would definitely work hard for it and im guessing you didnt read my background history but as off now im a HCA which i consider to be the physical labor of the RN in fact even more than the RN will do. All i need to feel the full force would be the intelectual side which i was really afraid off since I've never been a smart student in my own opinion
Hey, there. Since educational standards differ between nursing programs in the US and Canada, I've moved your thread to the Canadian forum so you can perhaps receive more targeted feedback and advice.
Ohh thank you im new to this site i didnt notice that im at the US part of the website sorry about that
well i did consider steinberg but thier reputation is not that great and Ontario is at the other side of Canada XD. As for now im still looking at each schools getting as much detail as i can find but right now VCC's RN/LPN or KPU's RPN is my best options without having too much hassle in finding the pre-reqs and the time it will all take away from me
First of all, you are only 20 years old, so don't be so hard on yourself.
Secondly, there are good reasons as to why those high school courses are required. If you feel like math 11 and bio 12 are difficult, let me tell you, the human anatomy and physiology courses for nursing will prove much more difficult. Therefore, you need learn the basics of bio and math well. The road to RN is VERY competitive.

I'm currently taking BIO 12 and Chem 11 for my high school pre-reqs to get into any Nursing schools in my area (Surrey, BC Canada). I still need to take Math 11 and ENG 12 and if i don't get B on BIO 12 i also need to retake that.
My question would be is there a College/Uni AROUND MY AREA that i can go into and just take their courses without having any High school pre-requisite and be able to get into their nursing program without a competitive grade or a LONG wait list? I'm looking for a pre-nursing program or kind of like that without me needing to take high school courses again.
This is my background story. It's your choice whether you read it or not. I'm 20 years old and I'm getting quite sad and desperate because I really want to go back to school again. I already finished my Health Care Assistant program at KPU and already has over 1 year work experience as a HCA @ Delta View. I've been looking online for schools that offers an "easy" way in to get into RN but as far as i know my only hopes would be VCC which has aprox 2 years of wait list, which i don' think will start ticking after i finished up their courses 1st. Also when i checked the courses i needed to take it seems like i have todo those for 2 semesters, but i dont know if i would need my High school courses before i can start those. This would mean that i would need atleast a whole year or more if ever i fail some courses finish up just their pre-reqs. And another 2 or so more years which is really what frustrates me. But when i look at other schools like Langara or even Kwantlen they are even worst because it is base solely on grades which i for sure not good at. I was never been an academic type of person. My usual grade would be around 70-78% for any academic courses Ive taken. I know i sound lazy and self centered, but i know my limits and i just want an average school that doesn't need me to basically kill my self trying to study. Also if you think the best way is to go into either LPN/RPN 1st tell me why and give me details if possible. I know in the end its all my fault for not trying harder during my high school days. I regret that even now but past is past all i can do now is move on but i need a little bit of help and this is that HELP i need!
Thank you for being considerate/inconsiderate this will serve me a huge lesson that will hopefully be ingrained on me and will also hopefully help me in my future.
