Long hiring process for LaCo Sheriff Dept.

Specialties Correctional

Published

For those of you La County Sheriff Dept correctional nurses, why does it take so long to go through the hiring process? I started the process in April, I took my oral interview in July( placed in band 1) and now I am going to have to wait who knows how long to hear back from the dept. I hear it can take up to 12months for them to let you know whether they are going to put you through the background investigation portion. This is bumming me out. I feel like I have to put my life on hold and pass up other potentially good jobs. Anyone out there who has a similar hiring scenario?

I submitted my application more than six months ago and have never heard back from them. Good luck.

I'm having the same problem...email

You need to really stay on top of them. Call them, email or whatever you have to do. The normal time, I understand, is 6 - 9 months. That is just how the county works. I have worked for 2 years for them. Good luck. Can I ask why you want to work for the LA County Sherriff's Dept? Just curious.

I mainly wanted to gain some correctional experience before applying to the CDCR. However, I found a registry that is going to place me at Soledad. If I like the position I'll apply for a slot with the state.

Good for you. Correctional nursing can be very rewarding but working for the county can be less than satisfactory.

Good luck.
