Ok I know it's very early starting this but I am so excited I couldn't help it! Application period doesn't even start until January! My journey has been a long one and I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel so I am sharing a little of that experience here and I would love to hear from others as well.
I just received my clearance letter from the BON so I am clear to apply in January for North Harris and Montgomery ADN programs, unfortunately I missed Kingwood. At this point I have an 11.1 and I'm about to retake the HESI so we shall see what is in store for me. I'm done with all my pre-reqs for my BSN and I'm so ready to start the next phase of my education and get on with more taking care of people! It's been 25 years since I decided I wanted to be a nurse. Twenty years of raising my kids, taking care of soldiers' families and single soldiers and eight years of riding in an ambulance later, I'm ready to follow my dream! Watch me go!
Amblerly you either have a DO or a blue card. Everyone has to do a background check, but if you have a DO already that means you have already done your background check and because you have a previous arrest you filed for a DO saying that the BON will allow you to sit for your NCLEX. If someone has no previous arrests they still do a background check but instead receive a blue card. Then you either submit your blue card or a copy of the DO to the nursing program. Hope that helps!
Ayala - you NEED to get your DO done. During the process of a DO you DO A BACKGROUND CHECK. The BON runs a background check on you when you submit a DO to see if anything pops up on your background. DO NOT WAIT TO FINISH THE DO. This process can take up to ONE YEAR and if you don't have a DO or a Blue Card by the deadline for the nursing program then you do not get in. They will give your spot up to an alternate who has a cleared background.
Okay because she told me to wait 15 days and then do the background check? So I have an appointment on the 22nd. I am just wondering if that is okay because it does state not to do anything until further notice for NH and I was reading last springs post and some of their fingerprints got rejected and she also told them not to do anything until further notice. I am so confused on this!! but I am just gonna do my fingerprints like she said

That's what I was reading in my letter to wait about a week or 2 but I have yet to receive anything and my deadline is on April 30
