2018 Lone Star ADN Hopefuls - Spring

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey there!

I wanted to start this page for anyone who is applying for the Spring 2018 Lone Star ADN or LVN program! I've seen previous posts, from previous years, and everyone was really helpful and encouraging to one another.

I am taking A&P 1 over the summer (starts 7/13) and then I will be submitting my application!! Im so nervous. I already took the HESI and got a score on 90.8%, which gives me and 3.6 on the point scale. I have an A in Eng 1301 and hope to get an A in A&P this summer.

In the fall I am taking A&P2 along with Micro (ugh). So if anyone else is in the same boat, let me know!!!

Anyway, I look forward to hearing from everyone 2MzmrmldDUluFszY4BeNRUhFw8YnK8nLzkBNSYABAA==

Do anyone knows if the Critical Thinking sections on the test helps with the ranking points?

Yes, Express has 2 locations, Spring and Conroe. I went there for the fast track Hep B back in feb. And you're right, you get #1, one week later you get #2 and then I believe 2 weeks later, the last shot. I did ask if it was basically redoing the series and I believe it was. LOL. I hope my body responds this time! I go for my third on 9/11. You may want to email/call and confirm that they'd want you to redo the series. For this round of shots, I've been going to Walgreens only. When I applied in person, I made an appt with my advisor and we applied together, the director saw my negative titers and the first recorded shot of this round and said that was fine.

How long did it take for you to get your titer after your last shot?

It does not factor into your score, but it does help break a tie - I believe!

From what the clinic in Spring told me, you can get your Titer again 4-6 weeks after your final Hep B shot.

When I asked an adviser at North Harris Nursing Department, she said that as long as you got the initial Titer(even if it show you're not immune), the original 3 Hep B shot record(assuming this isn't the first time you are getting Hep B vaccination), and the first shot of the current series, you can use these three documents to submit the application. This info also shows on the school website in the requirement section.

I am trying to retake Anatomy and Physiology both 1 & 2 at Lone Star (any campus) to get A's in both classes. Can anyone recommend professors that were easy and had the class structured well? Thanks so much!!

Professor Galvan at Tomball campus!! I am taking her this semester and just made a 100 on both my lecture test and lab practical for A&P2. She literally tells you what is and isn't going to be on the test during lecture. Verrrrry laid back for a science class. Plus, she is super friendly and cool which is always a plus. Record her lectures & you'll make an easy A. You also don't need to purchase the text book or the lab book. Only the access code.

Professor John Maynard at Greenspoint Center(part of North Harris) is very straight forward with both lab and lecture. Made an A in both A&P I&2 but you have to study, no textbook necessary, just study his powerpoints for lecture. He'll tell you what's on the test as well as a study guide telling you exactly what to focus on for the rest. For lab, he'll give you a list of term(body parts) that you'll need to know where they are and how to spell them. You'll have to do quite a bit of memorization as it is with all A&P so you gotta time manage your time. Also recommend that you record his lectures and listen to it again while you study for the exam. He mentioned a lot of little stuff that will be on the exam throughout his lecture.

It's not a class that you can cram on the last day and expect to do well. With that said my class average was around mid 80s for most of the lecture exam and lab practice.

Does anyone know of a good medical microbiology teacher that I can take this fall. I took it but it has expired and now I have to retake it or refresh it.

I've heard from my friend that Tiffany Martin in Cyfair is one of the best and she have the best rating on ratemyprofessor too, but I'm actually taking Marisol Hall from Cyfair currently because I wasn't able to sign up for Martin's class. Hall is like 2nd best rating on RMP and is a hybrid class but it's a fairly straightforward class if you study, much easier than Crowder's class from North Harris.

Hello Hopefuls!

Has anyone received an email of denial or acceptance for the march 2018 deadline, my anxiety is through the roof and dying to know my stance in the program. When I've applied in the past I've received an email by now but I haven't gotten one yet.

Please let me know if any one has heard from the people who decide our future aka Lone star college haha
