Hello all! I wanted to create this forum so we can all keep eachother updated about applications or if anyone has any interview insight or general questions!

Depends on the needs of the hospital but for my cohort they said they had about 500-600 applicants (I think) and accepted 64 people. For my cohort, most of the hires were assigned acute care (med-surg, observation units), with only 1-4 people hired in each of the critical care units (I.e. Cardiac PCU, Neuro PCU, SICU, MICU) and another 10-15 people into ED.
The contract you sign is just a piece of paper telling you how much LLU invested in your new grad program, so they are trying to persuade you to stay for 3 years but it is non-binding.

Any confirmation if they "blacklist" you for leaving before those 3 years? Or is it more like a de-prioritization of your application if you end up applying for something there later on down the line? Kinda worried they would communicate this to other hospitals and really wreck chances of getting a job elsewhere. The pay for the new grad program isn't great, just need the experience.

I mean if you were to leave right after you complete the yearlong new grad program, of course they're not going to want to hire you in the future. However, I've never heard of any hospital calling another hospital in the local area to not hire someone.
Although the pay is relatively low, the experience you get in the program is top notch. Unlike other new grad programs, at LLU you get a full month curriculum that consists of skill refresh sessions, lectures, and other things to get you prepped and then you have a minimum of 24 shifts guaranteed of precepting. Also since this a Level 1 Trauma Center & Teaching Hospital, you get to see all types of cool things that after 2 or 3 years, you could get a job at any hospital you want.

Well I was more concerned on whether it was 1 year or this unspoken 3-years in terms of the "real" program length. No matter how you cut it, committing to 3 years just to avoid blacklist if one were to leave after getting their year of experience is unnecessarily obtuse. Nobody likes getting their armed twisted over some perceived sunk cost. That said, thank you for the information. This is very helpful. 🙂
DES RN said:Anyone hear back from any of the units yet? I completed the video interview and I'm still under consideration, but have yet to receive a phone call.
I haven't heard anything either and am still listed as under consideration! The dates listed for the interview phase in the email sent before were August 26, 2024 – September 20, 2024. Hopefully soon, this is taking so long!
