for those of us soon to be new grads, can any of you california natives share some pearls of wisdom about which locations in california are still ripe with new grad positions? I am at the lucky advantage of being able to move wherever, even to other states, and am still a year from graduating but would like to start researching now. I have checked out Visalia, Napa, and Tahoe so far, but am just 20 yo and am wondering how happy I will be in these areas at my age. thank you so much in advanced :redbeathe

hey there. I am a craigslist freak and have found everything there from my cat, 2 dogs and other misc. things. I saw posted under the SF bay medical jobs openings for New Grads in North. California. Good luck:nurse:

Hospitals in the Bay Area hire, but they only take 12 to 15 new grads and only two to three times per year. They also get about 250 applications for each and every position that they have and most go to those that have rotated thru one of their programs.

Suspect what you are seeing posted is for nursing homes, and not hospitals. They are the only ones that hire but in most cases the orientation does not last more than a week and then you are on your own and legally responsible for 30 to 60 patients per shift.

Never a good idea for a new grad.

At this time, there are many hospitals that are under hiring freezes as well as having layoffs in CA; very hard to predict what is going to be happening next year. But do not forsee things getting better since the state is about to begin to actually issue IOUs next month instead of real checks to its employees beginning with elected officials first.

I have been a nurse for many years and have never seen things this bad. With lay-offs in other fields, they lose their health care in many cases, so the census is down at many facilities across the state as well.
