local colleges accepting EC credit

Published

Hi everyone.... I was completely sold on enrolling into Excelsior for my Rn but I just found out that I may be moving to california eventually, so excelsior is now out of the question.. I was wondering if anyone knows community colleges in their area (or BSN programs) that will accept Excelsior's A&P, and Microbio. (all my other prereqs are from a reg. college) The location doesn't matter (I will move to any state and town that will accept my credits and not make me wait eons for entrance. Thanks.. and yeah am serious about willing to relocate to anywhere.

Here in Tennessee, I have not been able to find a college that will accept Excelsior's A&P or micro. I have heard some schools will allow you to take only the 1 hour lab to make up for the credit but I've not been able to find any.

Yet another complaint I have with Excelsior.

Ali, you may have to cut your losses and take the classes again with a lab. At least you will have an upper hand on the material ;) But if it is a matter of not wanting to spend a whole semester in those classes I hear ya! There are online science classes with labs you may want to look into and they run about 7 weeks I think. That way it wouldnt put u off a whole semester from applying for the RN program. One place is called EduKan I think. Look on the sticky that talks about online science classes. If I go back later for my BSN/MSN then I would probably go that route. I think the classes are around $500 though.

Most colleges won't accept the science classes because they do not have a lab componet. I agree, this is a complaint of mine with Excelsior. I think you will have to start over with these classes if you no longer wish to persue a nursing degree with Excelsior.

thanks everyone for your input..I am just not looking foward to spending 16wks in a classroom again. But you know what,,, 7weeks sounds doable and it's online with a lab? For all that I don't mind paying the money. I hope y'all are having a great holiday season!!

I'm an EC grad but took regular classroom A&P and micro just for that reason when trying to get into a BSN program.

Now here in TX , some schools teach the A&P and micro lecture and lab as two different classes.

I was graded separately for my A&P lecture and lab. Students who CLEP'd or took Excelsior A&P or micro only had to enroll in the lab portion and got graded on that. They got credit for lecture by passing the Excelsior exam.

This is how it was when I lived out east as well, lecture and lab are two completely different classes.

But many schools teach these classes as one class, and you receive credit and only one grade for both lecture and lab.

If this is the case, then you would have to take the entire course regardless of whether you passed the EC A&P exam.
