how much will the military cover?

The Health Professions Loan Repayment Program that I signed for through the Army gives 30 thousand. I've been told that I can apply for a second 30K after I've been in for a year and each agreement comes with a three year service committment. I am not exactly sure what the amounts are for the Air Force and Navy but, figure they are comparable since Congress authorizes it, right?

Hmm.... My AMCC recruiter said and gave me paperwork on this loan repayment that said up to 90k repaid for 3 yrs of service.

To my knowledge the Navy offers a similar program once on active duty and you have to apply and compete for it. I think you have to have at least 3 years in before you're eligible. I've been in for 10+ years and applied 1 year ago for it and was turned down because I was going to grad school and they were paying for that. The Navy does offer a nice bonus for signing, but I'm unclear whether they offer any loan repayment at this time for accessions. Then again, it's the Navy and things change daily, so you need to look a little more.

What is AMCC? I should know but I do not. How do you get the 90K for three years? My HPLRP only goes to 30, I've seen that it can be to 50 for CCRNs but I am coming in as a new grad nurse generalist.

I believe AMCC stands for Army Medical Career Counselor. I believe they are correct in saying that it is $90,000 for a three year committment. If you want to take the 10,000 cash bonus with that it is a six year committment. Actually they have raised the HPLRP for FY 2007 to Repayment amounts of $36,782 per year!!!

I just met with an Army Recruiter and they are now paying back up to $110,000 for three years. Sounds fishy to me. I'm sure they are tacking on a couple more years somewhere in there and just not saying anything. Also met with the AF recruiter. They give $30,000 for 4 years plus a $25,000 sign on bonus if you commit 6 years. They will also pay for your master's in anything you want whereas the army only pays for your MSN.

I have 8 years prior service, so I know when something doesn't seem right. I had the memo forwarded to me directly from Army recruiting headquarters. Those numbers are correct.

I know this is an old thread but.....

So Gen, did you get both a sign-on and loan repayment? I ask because my recruiter told me today that they may not be doing that anymore. I'm applying to the AF but I also had a friend in the Navy that got both loan repayment and bonus. Also, was your loan repayment included in your contract? I'm just curious because all of a sudden my recruiter is starting to waiver on some of the details that I'm asking about.
