Loans for Daycare

Published

I'm just curious if anyone out there had to take out extra loans for daycare for your children or if financial aid can cover it? I'm so worried about the amount in daycare I need. Thanks ;)

I received a grant through the state for childcare while I was in school, which was amazing. I am in Oregon, and it was called the Oregon Student Child Care Grant. Maybe your state has something similar? I also received a grant through my school, which paid for a small portion of childcare while I was taking my prerequisites. That, too, was a lifesaver.

Thanks so much for responding I will for sure look into it

I agree with checking for state or privately funded options. I'm in AZ and there is a program (first something or other) that is separate from DES supported child care. It is like a scholarship for students and low income families that aren't low enough income to qualify for state assistance. It takes 150 off my weekly tuition for my 2 year old and makes her weekly very affordable. Them my 5 year old does after school care through her school for even less. I used to use the scholarship for my 5 year old last year. I used federal student loans and the remaining of my grant money to pay for daycare since I just started working again part time. I think I pay like $550 for both of them per month. Still expensive but less than half of what it would be without the scholarship. See what your state has to offer.

Many years ago, I took out addtl student loans to cover costs of living--including child care. At the time, I attended a state university with low tuition and was able to obtain addtl money to pay my bills with money from the federal student loan program.

In recent years, I used subsidized day care when I was in nursing school and when I was taking prereqs.

After I started working full time, my subsidy ended and I paid out of pocket. However, my child's school has an after school program that is free that reduces my need for daycare.

Thank you so much. I am having difficulty finding anything like this in AZ. I cant qualify for DES because they don't provide for you if you are a student.

I'm in AZ. It's qualityfirstaz.com. The program is available through various daycare centers but each center has a limit to the amount of people who can use it at a time. The site has a link for participating daycares so you could just call the ones closest to you or your school. I use a very high end well known daycare franchise. So it's not just cruddy run down daycares.

I got a check from the bank for my loan for grad school. Nobody asked me what I was going to spend it on, and a good hunk of it went to daycare. I figured that in when I decided how much to ask for.
