Living on your own as a RN?

Hello all! :) I am new to the forums and so far I love it here. :) For starters, I'm from and living in Brooklyn, NY. I started community college yesterday, and so far so good. I am aiming & hoping for the nursing program. For a while now, I've been thinking about moving out of my mother's house ( by the way, I am 19 years ) I have 2 reasons why I want to move out, one of them being that I would love to gain independence & another being I can't stand this environment that I live in with my mother, I came out as an Atheist to her a few months ago & stuff went downhill & still it is a struggle to recover from Christianity.

I would like to move out after I graduate community college, not a big place, a nice studio apartment will be good enough for me. I'm wondering whether or not I would bother getting a TV, considering that everything is on the internet now a days + Netflix, I do know I want WiFi for sure, no pets because as much as I love animals, having a pet is going to be expensive, the food, grooming supplies, toys, bedding and etc. I don't want a car, even though my mother is pushing it onto me that I should get a car, however, no.

My question is, is it possible for someone to be an RN and live on their own?

    While I'm not in your area, I started renting an apartment 3 months after getting my first nursing job. Since then, I've bought a modest town home. So, as long as you budget wisely, don't buy more house than you can afford, and live within your means, yes it is possible to live on your own as a nurse. Just remember to take cost I living into account- compared to Brooklyn, I live in a much lower cost of living area. Make sure you research your salary as a new grad, cost of living in your area, and average rent for an apartment. Choose wisely from there.

    Short answer, YES. There is no reason why an RN couldnt live on their own. Unless you have insane debt racked up or a huge family, RNs make enough to, at the bare minimum, rent an apartment, own a car, and pay the utilities. You could even throw in the TV. Good luck in school, and while you still need to budget as an RN because you wont be rich, you will make a living wage.

    I am an RN and support a family of 5.

    My hubby stays home with the kids. Just bought my own home, have 2 cars which are paid for.

    So yes you can as a single adult working as a RN make it on your own

    I lived on my own/supported myself at 18 making $8/hour. So yes, there is no reason why you couldn't. People do it all the time, making less than what an RN makes.
