LIU brooklyn campus vs Molloy

U.S.A. New York

Published

I recently have been accepted to LIU brooklyn campus and Molloy.

Can people who attend either of these schools tell me the pros and cons of it? It would be greatly appreciated.

Specializes in NICU.

I just graduated from LIU. I'd recommend it because I really have nothing inherently bad to say about our school except they can be a bit disorganized at times, but the support from faculty is really great. Take a look at the liu thread on the New York Nurses discussion board.

I know people in both programs. I myself start the program in Fall. If money is an issue for you then go for Molloy because LIU is expensive as crap. Do you already have pre-reqs or are you starting as like a freshman. LIU has a lot of pre-reqs, most of which are specially designed and won't transfer over to other schools so if you're going to do them at LIU then you have to be positive that you're going to go there or you're going to have problems.

LIU requires the HESI while Molloy requires the NET exam.

Hi i know this is real late buh i myself go to Molloy

Pros- It' is a small school, small class sizes, great nursing school reputation, easy to locate , nice surrounding area , SOME great professors, overall comfortable environment.

Cons- The Nursing Department can be a little intimidating , it's expensive buh the cheapest 4yr private school on long island, The structure of the program requires you to take intersession classes to graduate 4 1/2-5 yrs, the library is noisy& small so be sure to find an alternative space. The nursing classes close relatively quick so you have to be prepared to fight for your spot in the class.

FYI- To the person above we DON'T take the NET we take a MATH SCREENING TEST which requires (only 2 wrong) . And a NELSON DENNY READING TEST. (which i prefer over the net ).

Buh good luck hope u made the best decision

Actually, it's either the NET or the NELSON DENNY

Admission Requirements

Transfer credit allocation is consistent with College policy. Students must declare their intent to enroll in the DDP upon admission. Requirements include:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.

  • An undergraduate GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Satisfactory completion of the math proficiency requirement.
  • Nelson Denny score of 14 or a NET (ERIĀ®) Reading Comprehension Test Score of 70.
  • A personal interview.

A provisional admission status may be available. See program director for details

Does anybody know if this program is an accelerated bs WITH the option to continue to ms or is it binding....?

Also, what are the prereqs, their site doesn't have much info...

Actually, it's either the NET or the NELSON DENNY

THEY ACCEPT THE NET SCORES BUT DO NOT ADMINISTER IT. you can call admissions to verify. they have a BSN to MSN program i know of some people currently taking that path and it's supposedly 5 years with undergrad nursing courses intertwined with graduate courses . It's definitely not an accelerated program the only way to get ahead is to take summer courses &intersession but then again the program is strictly sequenced with co-requisite & pre-requisite courses in order to advance. pre-requisites for the program: Chem112, A&P1 and 2, Microbiology, Nutrition. Statistics, Philosophy, Theology,Ethics, Art or Music, Communications, History,Psychology, Sociology and a Language that about covers it. They let you take most of these general education classes with your nursing classes BUT ALL SCIENCES(sociology &psych included) MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE CLINICAL and Nutrition can be taken before or with clinical . and statistics before Med Surg II

I hope this helped , Good Luck
