Littmann Lightweight II vs. Maxiscope

Published

I'm going to be starting LPN school in a few weeks, and I am in need of a good stethoscope. I had a Littmann Lightweight II when I was in RN school (which I dropped out of for personal reasons) and I loved it, but have since sold because I needed the money.

I've been doing some research, and at this point, I think I'm between another Lightweight and a Maxiscope (by Ultrascope). Which one of these would you suggest and why? Or if you have another suggestion in the under $50 range that's about the same quality, let me know.

Thanks!

Have not tried the Maxiscope.

Are there any reviews online?

Any way you can test each of them, side by side? You may end up preferring one over the other, after such a test.

I have read tons of reviews of each online, and they both have really good ones. I have used the Littmann before and really liked it, but since I'm buying a new steth, I figured I may as well do some research. I have no way of trying them...there is only one place in town other than Walmart that even sells scrubs, so options here are almost nonexistent.

I'm very interested in this topic. I just ordered a Maxiscope a couple of days ago after reading a couple hundred reviews. I currently have a Littmann Master Classic II and I can't wait to compare them side-by-side. Mine won't arrive for about a week, but I wonder if it will live up to all the things I've read.

I have a Littmann Lightweight, Maxiscope and just bought an MFD yesterday.

The Maxiscope is very comparable to the Lightweight in terms of sound and clarity. The only thing I didn't like is that it's very heavy. And if you're going to wear it around your neck for 8 to 12 hours, your neck and shoulders get pretty sore. I ended up having to leave mine at the desk a lot after assessments were done.

The MDF that I just bought sounds as good or even better as a Littman. I compared it to my Lightweight AND my daughter's Classic II SE. It's not as heavy as the Maxi, but definitely heavier than the Lightweight.

Hope that helps

Thanks for your thoughts. What MDF did you buy?

The MDF MD One

Thanks! I've been looking into that one as well and the ratings are super high! Plus it comes in both a really pretty pink and a really pretty purple lol!

I can tell you, you won't be disappointed! And you can't beat the price for the quality! I absolutely LOVE mine!

Again, thanks for the suggestion!
