'the list' at stlcc

U.S.A. Missouri

Here's my question: is one's place on the list determined by timing only or does gpa, coreq completion, dosage test score, etc. all factor in and place one higher? I'm at Flo Valley but I'm considering transferring to UMSL if the wait is too long.

I applied to Forest Park and Meramec at the same time. And got accepted the same time too. I applied in Dec. 07 and got in Jan 09.

I did the same thing! But while I'm now at Forest Park, STL2008 went to Meramec. Grrrrr!

I haven't taken the dosage test because I want time to prepare. And freak out about it. Just kidding. Sort of. I will check out the calculations book, then go for it.

I wouldn't mind amother campus. If I start at 1st available I can transfer if I'm accepted closer to home, I assume?

Does anyone have any reasonable explanation for the length of these lists?! The advisor at FV seemed more disturbed by it than me.

My question pertained to why you can't take the CLASS. I think it's priceless, particularly if math isn't your thing and it may save a lot of frustration. If you're particularly good with ratios and your math skills are strong, then it may not be necessary for you. As I mentioned, it's the very basic dosage math, so you may be fine. If you can do the online quiz, then go for it as it's no worse than that.

I believe you can start at the first available campus, then transfer, but that will be largely out of your hands. It will depend on the student load at the campus you want to transfer to and whether they have openings and if the director allows you to transfer in. If all of that particular class at that campus is passing, they may not be able to accommodate another student. Also, in 3rd semester they often take LPN bridge students in, so there may not be room. I wouldn't count on this being a reality when the time comes.

As for the length of these lists? Read around on allnurses in the pre-nursing students and other sections. We are very fortunate that all we have to do is meet a few prereqs then go on a wait list. In many other areas they will "weight" your application according to GPA, any relevant job experience, units completed, etc. Then you might go on a list. Or they might throw your name in a hat with all the other applicants and draw, lotto style. Good luck with that. I read where some students have been repeatedly in those "lottos" only to not have their names drawn. Or there's any number of other ways they have of determining who gets the few spots each semester for nursing school. There's a shortage of nurses. There's a glut of students who want to get in the field. The number of school slots isn't apparently coming near to meeting the demand. Hence, waiting lists, students who aren't getting in school at all, and a continued shortage of trained, licensed RNs.

I will be forever grateful that we "only" had a list at STLCC. While my GPA, etc. would've probably held me in good stead getting a decent spot in a more competitive mode of entry, it was pretty nice having the "first-come, first-served" list available here in STL. You can just sit back and wait for your letter while either taking more of the coreqs or working on classes for a later BSN, or just working and earning some money to help lighten the load while your'e in school.

Oh! I can't take the dosage class because I have a full load, work and I have a 2 year old! 2 semesters sounds much more reasonable than 2 years! I will have my coreqs done after fall semester! Thanks for the info and positivity! I will keep pluggin away!

I think I will take the 3 week A&PII this summer! Any survivors have advice?

I can't help you there. Took chem during the summer online and survived it....took intermediate algebra in a 3-week format and it was intense but kind of nice to have the concentration in one class. Just took a lot of buckling down and studying without much else in between.

Best wishes!

I dont know if this is going to change your mind about the dosage class or not. But it meets 4 times during the whole class. Its 1 month long and its like 2 hrs.

How are you liking Forest Park?

How are you liking Forest Park?

It's great. I really like my classmates, several of whom I'd taken prereqs with but never had realized we were going to end up in the same class. And my lab prof is really great. The fundamentals prof is ok, but I'm not complaining. I'm really quite pleased, and we start clinicals tomorrow morning too. It's split between Barnes West County and Bethesda Dillworth. I'm ready! How about you?

Did you take 3wk APII at FV with Chris?!

He makes it sound so great.

No I took it at Forest park.

I just came back from clinicals today. It was fun! Really interesting. Next week im out on my own! So nervous!:uhoh3:

So far so good at meramec. I like all my teachers. My lab teacher is pretty intimidating. Other than things are going great!
