List of critical care internships..

Published

Hi all,

I am going to be graduating in Dec 08. I keep seeing advertisements for these new grad critical care internships but then check the hospital system site and it gives limited info. Does anybody know of a list of all the hospitals that have these programs so I could contact recruiters. Could anyone recommend some for me to check out. Im considering moving anywhere so all options will be considered.

Thanks

You'll have to contact individual nurse recruiters from hospitals you might be interest in. Pretty much all major hospitals have some sort of formal orientation program for new graduates in critical care.

Some of the more well known hospitals include:

Vanderbilt

The Cleveland Clinic

Northwestern Memorial

Rush

Duke

Loyola

Georgetown

Mass General

Beth Israel Deaconess

Barnes Jewish

Baylor

Those are just a few hospitals from various major cities in the country. Good luck and study hard!

also Parkland - Dallas, TX

hello everybody, i am yet another new grad graduating in may 08, looking for icu internships, can anybody pls guide me towards any good ones available in philadelphia's vicinity. lehigh valley is the only one i came across yet.

Thanks!!

Specializes in SICU/Trauma.

There is also one in Columbus Ohio with the Ohio health system.

Specializes in ICU.

I live in the DC area in MD. Most of the hospitals here do accept new grads. Though I have heard Georgetown is not a very nice place to work from school friends who worked as patient techs there. I just got a job as a new grad in the ICU.

University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore hires lots of new grads for their ICU's.

Specializes in pediatrics/PICU.

In Las Vegas, Nev., we have a 6 month preceptor program in PICU. We have openings in July and December. Come on down to Sunrise Hospital in Vegas for an interview!

Specializes in Not too many areas I haven't dipped into.

I live in the Cincinnati area and every hospital here taht I know of offers an internship in critical care. It is basically a nice way of saying elongated orientation with classroom work.

happy hunting!

Hi RNFELICITY, Could you elaborate about the crit care internship programs that you are familiar with in the Cincy area? I'm hoping to apply to either the program at university hospital or maybe miami valley in Dayton.

Thanks!!

I am very familiar with University's critical care program. It is a 6 week classroom with hands on experience orientation and then you come out with a preceptor. Lots of information to get under your belt with lots of hand outs. They have several ICU's there...CVICU,SICU,MICU,neuro ICU, BUrns....off the top of my head

Thanks for the info, if you know of any contacts I'd appreciate it. I can't seem to find much information about the program on their website. Might be something I need to contact HR about? Thanks again!!

You can contact HR or if you go to the website, you can get each unit's manager's number and call them directly. All of the critical care areas of the hospital have the same critical care classes and then each unit has their own orientation.

They use the Ecco program as part of their class time.
