Hello!
With the application deadline for Linfield's Summer ABSN start behind us, I figured I would start a new topic for those who applied for the 2019-2020 cycle so we can keep each other in the loop if/when we hear back from this program and provide support during this painful waiting time.
I applied to both Linfield and OHSU(PDX) for ABSN, and have not yet applied to Concordia's ABSN program.
Since Concordia has a few additional requirements I was hoping to first see if I can make it into either one of these programs before reassessing and tackling those additional requirements ( 2nd Chem class, Kaplan exam, CNA)
Who else has applied to Linfield and is waiting to hear back? Any other schools you are waiting to hear back from? Top preferences?
Looking forward to hearing from folks, hoping we will be able to get it started this summer!

Out of curiosity how is everyone planning to pay for Linfield? The price is a bit daunting and I'm wondering if most people are taking out private loans if they don't qualify for grants or have maxed out their student loans....
I’m hoping they’re generous with the scholarships. I’m looking into other scholarships too, but I expect to max out my federal loans. Then maybe cash out a retirement account if it makes sense. I’ll apply for private loans if truly needed, but I’m reluctant with them being notoriously higher interest. Award letters should be here early next week ?

I am awaiting the award letter anxiously as well. Linfield is very expensive and depending on what that looks like it may still end up making or breaking my decision. I also am hoping to be able to get enough of a transfer scholarship that it will bring down the tuition costs closer to Concordia's ABSN (around $65k). I don't think it will ever get down to OHSU tuition range($48k), but hoping it gets close. I am not at my max for federal loans either but expect to max those out and to also take out private loans. My husband and I are also considering an early retirement withdrawal. If we do this, we will still have to pay federal and state taxes on the amount, but it will be considered and eligible hardship withdrawal since it is for school and we wont have to additionally pay a withdrawal penalty. Doing this is not my first choice, but depending on the interest rate of private loans it could make sense.
As soon as I get an award letter I will be shopping different banks for private loans and seeing what the best option is for us.
I'm still wait listed so I will not get an award letter until I know IF I get in. Luckily my loans are not maxed out but due to mine and my husbands income I for sure won't qualify for any grants. And can't apply for any private loans or scholarship until I actually get in, feels like it's cutting everything super close!
I'm glad I'm not the only one that hasn't really been able to do much further planning! It's somehow reassuring haha.

Yeah, that is tricky. Hoping you will have enough time to make a decision and get things in order. Once I get my award letter, I am happy to share what that looks like. This is the type of information I have been looking for from past years that always seems to be vague, which makes it tricky when evaluating options and only having partial info. I have spoken to current and past ABSN students that went to Linfield, and they have all said they had to seek private student loans.

Thank you so much! That's super generous of you. If I get in I will send you a message ?
I am also in the top 10 for the wait list for class starting June 1. I am concerned about the short time frame. I have also been accepted to Concordia. Their program starts the end of August. Has anyone else done a comparison of the 2 programs? I am interested to hear the perspective of another student. I am a bit concerned because a bulk of the Concordia program is online. Thanks for any input.

Below is a thread from a year ago, and a Concordia nursing student chimed in. This is going to sound weird, but I got put off by that school early on. There’s not much on their website about admission criteria, which forces you to call (eerily similar to some for-profit colleges I’ve seen), and then someone called me back EVERY DAY for a week when I couldn’t be reached. No other school has done that.
Anyways, I’m sure you’ll do your research, but this thread was illuminating for me...
