A few weeks ago on our famous ER show, a mother watched the surgery on her little girl. Now I know this is just TV, but my point or question is, does this ever really happen? I have being trying to get the cardiac cath lab to let me attend my husbands cardioversion, either in the room, or behind the glass wall, so far not a good answer, and I am a CNA and an EMT. This cardioversion is external. Does anybody let a loved on watch major surgery, or anything else for that matter?
thanks to all and have a Merry Christmas

We've only allowed people to watch small things, like mole removals. And ONLY if they are sitting down.

I got to watch a very minor surgical procedure on my son years ago because I told the doc I'm a RN.

I've accompanied many dads while they did a c-section on their wives. I was standing behind them while they sat at their SO's head. Some try to watch the surgery, but I tell them nicely I don't recommend that (unless they themselves are docs) because we don't want to end up with 3 patients. :) When they go with the baby to the nursery, I sit down at the head of the pt and comfort/talk to her through the rest of the surgery.
