Hi guys, what can you tell me about LIJ hospital in New Hyde Park? All experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Is north shore/lij interviewing new grads without licenses? I would like to get into either the fellowship or er program? Any info would be appreciated. I've applied with them, and have received no word. Are they hiring ADN nurses, I know in this market, they might be preferring BSNs now?

Yes, they hire without the license, although they prefer not to and they want you to have your NCLEX taken before the fellowship starts. There have been people that have taken the NCLEX after the fellowship begins, some have passed but others have failed. Keep in mind that the first 8 weeks of the fellowship is like school, but more intense, with studying and tests and everything. That's why they'd rather you be done with the NCLEX before you start. Yes, they most certainly do hire ASN/ADN nurses...I'm one.

Last I knew is that North Shore University Hospital did not participate in the NS-LIJ ED fellowship; but, instead had their own program. You could try contacting the ER Nurse Educator for North Shore Univ Hospital and see if you could get a foot in through the back door since the system's Nurse Recruiter would only think of putting you in
system's ER fellowship.
Nurse educators are usually very friendly and approachable.
I'm suprised I haven't received a response, I applied with North Shore and was almost hired as a LPN in their rehab, I rejected the offer because I was a new grad and they were going to have me as a float nurse. Now that I applying with them again, I'm wondered if I was blacklisted for rejecting the offer, I was very nice with the recruiter, I was not rude or impolite.

The only way to enter the MICU as a new grad is to be accepted into the Critical Care Fellowship. I started in the fellowship as a new grad. There are times when I think some med/surg experience would have been helpful, but I made it, and I'm not the only new grad that did.
The unit is nice, it's getting a facelift as we speak. As in any unit, there are some really nice people and some really not-so-nice people. The nurse to patient ratio in the MICU is 1:2. But every other month you work in the PCU (Progressive Care Unit) which is a medical and surgical ICU step-down. That can be good because you get a little bit of surgical experience. The ratio there is 1:3-4 (usually 3).
Any other questions, let me know. But don't PM me because for some strange reason I can't access my PM's.
