How much weight is it considered safe to lift during pregnancy? Did you still continue to scoot patients up in bed and turn them when pregnant?
I'm not sure...Like Tweety said, I would seek the advice of your doctor and not do anything that you're uncomfortable with. Hopefully you're co-workers will be there for you when you need them.
I have 3 pregnant women on my unit! My 7-3 sidekick, our 3-11 nurse and our social worker are all expecting. I'm more than willing to help my buddy out as she is me.
first of all what does there job description say about the amount of wt that is required for the position?? second of all are you considered to be legally and permanently disabled? if the job description states that you have to lift more than 25 pounds then they dont have to accomodate you. if you are legally permanently disabled then you are protected under the americans with disabilities act and they do have to make an effort to accomodate you as long as the hospital will not suffer economically because of it. i have seen job descriptions that as if you can physcially do certain things before you will be considered for a postion.
have you ever heard of a hospital being unable to accommodate a nurse because she couldn't lift more than 25 lbs?

look at the employee hand book on the hospitals policy on pregnancy. what state are you in? how does your hospital treat other employees who have weight restrictions? what does the department of fair employment and housing say about this do they consider it discrimination? do you have the option of collecting state disability or short term disability if you are unable to work now because of this? are they willing to move you to a different position? in california where i am in nursing they would never treat a pregnant nurse this way.
let me know.:)

on my unit im the 5 th nurse to become pregnant!! Its that chair at the nurses station :rotfl: Well our hospital has a no lifting policy, we have to go to manual handling courses every year to keep updated. We have aides on the ward, if you do do some damage and you were not carrying out the correct procedures as laid down in the policy. It is basically your own fault. As far as pregnancy goes the staff on my ward are very considerate and dont let you do anything too strenuous. It is lovely to know you have the caring staff on your ward. They dont mind if i refuse to do things that i think i cant do.
