Hi just wondering what it exactly means? licensing verification? I'm from Alberta thus, unfamiliar with the nursing terms in the US. If i get my license verified does it mean i passed the nclex?

licensure is the process by which an agency of state government grants permission to an individual to engage in a given profession upon finding that the applicant has attained the essential degree of competency necessary to perform a unique scope of practice. licensing requirements define what is necessary for the majority of individuals to be able to practice the profession safely and validate that the applicant has met those requirements. this regulatory method is used when regulated activities are complex, require specialized knowledge and skill and independent decision-making. the licensure process includes the predetermination of qualifications necessary to perform a legally defined scope of practice safely and an evaluation of licensure applications to determine that the qualifications are met. licensure provides that a specified scope of practice may only be performed legally by licensed individuals. licensure provides title protection for those roles. it also provides authority to take disciplinary action should the licensee violate provision of the law or rules in order to assure that the public health, safety and welfare will be reasonably well protected.

a nurse candidate must meet the license requirements for the state they desire to work/practice in order to take the inital exam for nurse licenesure, the nclex.
if you have passed nclex and been granted a state license your name and license appears on the state list maintained by each states board of nursing. (sbon).
when a licensed nurse applies for a license in another state, that board of nursing may require proof of existing or previous licenses.
each employer is responsible too for verifying whether the nurse's license is current and valid before and during the period of employment.
verification can be done by performing an online search using a state website or by telephone/fax query to each state board of nursing.. a fee may be involved.
license sanctions/ineligibility also appears on the state website. if an employer is found to have a nurse working with an expired licnese, any monies received for medicare/medicaid patients care that the nurse was invovled in will be denied or requested to be returned...happened to several facilities in the pa on state audit.
renew your license timely!
in homecare, management is responsible for verification of active physician licensure, medicare eligibility and federal fraud and abuse check ---yearly!
with over 1,000 physicians in my agency's data base, it takes a lot of time to obtain and review this info....i'm so grateful that 99% can be done online.
