Licensure Requirements for CA

hi to everyone, my friend is a nursing graduate in philippine. now she is currently living in california and she wants to know what are the requiremnts for california nclex..can somebody pls give me the websites where she can dowload forms.thanks

There is no application for the NCLEX exam so you will not find one. The nurse will be applying for licensure as an RN. There is not even any mention of the NCLEX exam any where on the application for licensure for any state.

Since your friend is a foreign grad, there are other requirements that must be completed before she will be able to get approval to write that exam.

Not sure if she has a visa that will permit her to work in the US already, if not, there is no way that she is going to be able to work since we do not have any visas available.

Moving this thread to the International Forum since it is specific to a foreign grad. Please be aware that if she does not already have a SSN# and a visa that will permit her to work, CA is not recommended as they will not issue a license without the SSN#.

CA has a Board of Registered Nursing and she can obtain the applications from their website.

NCLEX is also a national exam and is not state specific.

ok.. i got ur point..she is already a resident and a greencard holder so she is already legally able to work.She is a not regestered nurse in philippines but a BSN graduate only. Now she wants to become a license nurse here specifically in california but she doenst know how to and doenst hjave any idea on how start the process to become an RN. anywebsite u can recommend?thank u so much.

She needs to follow requirements on the Ca BON for foreign nurse. Will need to check with BON as there was talk of local license being a requirement for Ca from Jan 08. Once she meets requirements she will be given permission to sit NCLEX. Primer to working in the US a thread has all the info you need for your friend. Seeing as she already has a GC she will not need Visa screen certificate otherwise the primer should be enough

If CA starts to require the local license, then she will be required to obtain that. Since she only has green card status, she is still a legal citizen of the Philippines and holds their passport, and therefore is subject to the requirements for there.

If she holds a US passport, then she would not be able to even sit for that exam and the requirement could be waived.

All states have Boards of Nursing, but CA has the Board of Registered Nursing, and this is the place that all go to for information on licensure in the state where they wish to get licensed.

There is a primer at the top of this forum that gives all information for working in the US as a foreign nurse. Immigration status has nothing to do with licensure, all requirements must be met as a foreign grad. And she can expect it to take four to six months before she will get approval to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam.
