Licensure by Endorsement States and RNP

Published

Anyone ever had to deal with endorsement licenses (not original state) while probated in original state? Esp if you have not worked there in years?

I think this is impossible to do. If ever it has happened, I have never heard of it... the best you can do is call these states boards.

yes, it is possible. i just got a texas license by endorement after completing 1 and 1/2 years of a recovery program in my home state. however, t took texas 1 year and 3 months before they endorsed my license. i regret coming here. the laws are different from my state. in my orig state i had a private agreement--meaning the stip was not advertised on your license or online. but the rest was the same. and yes i was obligated to inform my employer in my orig state. good luck

some states; often many will let you transfer your program. depends on the state so call the BON...some BON's are are staffed with nothing but recovery nurses!

Wow!! This is the first I have heard of this! There is a stipulation when you are in the program in texas that you must stay in Texas and work under the agreement for the two years.

in response to mag. yes i know because i read that in my order (about having to stay in tx for the remainder of the program) but in nj i guess it was not a restriction. in nj i did not get an order like they do in tx. what I got was a letter titled "private agreement". and it did not have all that legal termilogy that tx has. also they did not tell me they would disclose to the public. here in tx they do. trust me it was hard to get my endorsement (timewise and documents). but it was done. I know it will work here for me even though it might be harder here than in my home state because I know have the almighty, magnificient, loyal and awesome father (jesus christ) by and on my side. AND NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST ME WILL PROSPER because of him. thanks

OK, thanks for the replies, but to be more specific- what if the endorsed state is contacting the nurse while she is on probabtion in the orginal state asking for a large sum of money and to be evaluated by a psych and the whole nine yards, when this is something nurse has already done in the original state. Even saying she has to be eval in person by their board. The concern is that they will try and initiate their OWN RNP type monitoring even though the nurse is near the end of her 'monitoring.' I was just wondering because we were discussing this at work and I dont see how someone can be tried twice for the same crime sort of. Was wondering if anyone ever had to do that. Will the endorsed state accept the original states paperwork or make her do probation all over again? I mean its pretty finite to give up a license altogether even if she hasnt worked there in 3 years and never renewed.

So they endorsed it when they got good and ready, but did they make you do a probation all over again?

I can pretty much bet on my life that Texas would make you do their whole program. Unless it was heard before the board, and you brought your attorney,, if you're thinking of entering into TPAPN in texas, they don't bend the rules for anyone. You have to do the whole thing....

Unless, like I said, it is a board ordered monitoring program that is not tpapn. I don't know if you're going to Texas or where you're going,, but if it were me, I would just ride out the rest of my contract in my state and THEN move after it is done.

I agree with the suggestion of finishing out your monitoring before seeking licensure elsewhere. Even then, you may be required to a monitoring period depending on the state and their regs. I understand your objections and the idea of being tried twice, but this is administrative law and very different than criminal law, and the BON actions are not considered as a trial or sentencing.

I know that there are a few states that do want their own monitoring done, even when already completed elsehwere... I suspect that they don't want to assume liability based on other states programs. and the fact that the media has uncovered some states that don't do a good job does not help here.

I completed a 5 year monitoring program in 2006, sober since 2001, and am currently seeking reinstatement in my original state of licensing d/t letting my license lapse. Could you tell me what states that you know of that require their own monitoring after successful completion of the program?

This question is best when asked directly to the state boards of the states that you would consider moving to.
