Licensure by Endorsement for California

U.S.A. California

Published

I'm planning a move to Southern California from Virginia in June of this year. I am trying to start the process to obtain licensure by endorsement. My question is, has anyone had to go through this process? If so, how long does it take?

I'm sure it is a long process, but since theres only about 8-9 weeks between now and when I'd like to start work in California, do I need to go the extra step and get a temporary license? That would be way out of my way to drive up to Sacramento from the Ventura area, but I don't know if that would be necessary.

Also, I requested two fingerprint cards on the CA Board of Registered Nursing website, but have yet to receive them. Will my local Police Dept. have the same kind that I need, or do I have to get the ones I requested on the website?

If anyone can give me any information regarding licensure by endorsement to CA, I'd be so appreciative. I know the process should have been started sooner, but its just been in the past couple of weeks that its become a definate that I will be moving out there.

Thanks guys

First off go to the Cali BON website, download and print their app. Fill it out send it to the BON..Be sure you get the correct address. I think they just moved.

Secondly go to www.nursys.com pay $30 bucks to get your VA license verified.

Find out if Ventura has LIVE SCAN available or else swing by Sacramento and get your LIVE SCAN fingerprinting done at the cop shop or the DOJ.

Return to the board and get your temp license in about 20 minutes. Remind them you are in the nursys. And that your original license is VA.

I had my temp in 20 minutes post returning to the BON and my perm in 18 days.

Good luck if you have other questions you can PM me.

Thanks for your response...I just really don't want to have to drive to Sacramento. I want to know how long of a process it was without having to go up there. If we change our cross country itinerary to include sacramento, it adds like 15 hours to our trip. If we go up there and back after we get moved into Ventura itll be a 6 hour trip to and a 6 hour trip from to get it done. I'd like to just have my permanent and save the hassle.

If I don't do livescan for the fingerprints, are the cards the same?

Thanks again

It is worth it for you to do LiveScan, but it's only available in California. The cards are the "same" in the sense you are getting your fingerprints on them. But the LiveScan does it electronically. If you do it with the regular postal service it can take 1 to 2 months to get your fingerprints verified. LiveScan is available in lots of cities in Califonria, not just in Sacramento. So it's a matter of how long you want to wait to get your fingerprints verified. Look at the CA BON website; they tell you there too. Good luck.
