licensed at differnet state and living in california

Published

Hi guys! I was hoping for some career tips on how to get a nursing job, or any other job here in california where my family resides. I currently hold a Nevada RN license and still in the process of applying license by endorsement here at california. I still haven't received any response from them and from what I have heard that being a foreign graduate from the Philippines, I would still need to take some classes to get a license here. Any tips/ directions on which i should focus on? Thanks so much!

You should find your answers by reading the many threads in the World forum under the Nursing Registration topics whereby the CA BRN has been declining the several thousands of grads and nurses with BSN from the Phils due to not meeting with the concurrency requirements as set forth since 1987.

It is not only due to the concurrency rules but also there are many who were found to have been lacking other courses such as Psych, A&P, etc or lacking enough clinical hours.

The strict enforcement started in Nov. 2011 and yes, one must make up the deficient courses in the far to find, hard to get into and if you can afford the $$$ tuition, you might get a chance to re-take the courses. There are some less pricey schools but those you can expect to be extremely impacted and many have waiting lists lasting up to 3-4 years.

Some have been lucky to re-take the courses out of state but you need to get the approval of your CA BRN evaluator before going that route and not waste your time and money to get rejected after all that if not given the okay to proceed.

I will look into those forums. I also heard it was difficult to find a school and there is a high chance to be in wait listed. One must be extremely lucky to get a slot. And I still have to wait for CA BON prior to all that. Thanks @steppybay for your reply.
