good day fellow nurse!
i just want some clarification regarding renewal of RN license. I heard from a friend that if a foreign nurse expires her US license, she/he has to take the exam again???? except in Vermont....I hope it's definitely not true....
please give insights coz my license will expire this March 31, 2007.
thanks....:nuke:

Once you take the NCLEX exam , you do not retake it. Your friend is completely wrong.
You will need to have a SSN# to be able to renew your VT license, without that, you will not be able to endorse a license as you will not have an active one to endorse. Once you are in the US and get a SSN# to begin work, then you can send it to them and the fee to renew, and get a renewed license.
Please take the time to do some reading on this forum.
thanks suzanne.
my problem now is that i am still here in the philippines because of retrogression. how am i going to get a SSN# in order for me to renew my license? it will expire on March 31, 2007. i tried to access the website at VT to have a copy of the renewal form but nothing comes out.
please give me more views....

There is not one thing that you can do at this time about that. You must have gone thru the immigration process and physically be in the US and ready to work to get a SSN#. Without one, you cannot renew in any state.
Once you present them with a SSN# and get your license active again, then there will not be any issues. But right now, not one thing can be done. They did not send you a renewal as they did not have a SSN# on file for you when they were sent out.
