License by examination or endorsement?

Published

Hey everyone!

I am a new graduate from Boston, MA who is trying to relocate to NorCal.

My school told us that we couldn't send our paperwork to the board of nursing until we actually graduated, so unfortunately I didn't send everything in till the 1st week of June.

I have missed a few job opportunities already since I don't even know what my NCLEX date will be.

I am wondering if I should cancel my application to get licensed by examination, to license by endorsement after I pass my boards in MA.

MA processes your paperwork in under 2 weeks, so most of my cohort has already taken their exam.

I'm not sure if it is worth doing that now, or will it take just as long to do it by endorsement.

Also, can anyone tell me if it would be a horrible idea to start off as a school nurse?

I know how competitive it is to get into an acute care facility as a new grad, and at this point I will take any job that will give me experience.

Thank you in advance!

I just spoke with the California BRN about this just a few days ago. They are being glacially slow right now with processing applications, which includes license by endorsement and license by exam. If you've already applied for license by exam, the BRN does not advise you get your ATT in another state and then apply for license by endorsement afterwards. As the lady put it to me, that simply puts you at the back of the line again. But of course you can't even apply for an endorsement license until you have one, so you'd have to add about 16 to 18 weeks to the point at which you apply for that license.

I have no advice about working as a school nurse.

Best of luck to you :D

I transferred my LVN license from NC to CA and just to evaluate the application took three months. The send a l letter and want you to send more money. I cannot believe that the cost of everything Will end up being about $350. The letter of eligibility is in the mail. I'm not sure how long it takes to get the license once the fee is paid. It's a ridiculous process. Good luck!
