Sorry,

yes they just changed their entrance exam...at the beginning of this current semester (fall 2009).

Penny 84 is correct the BAC/BSN is the accelerated program only for people that have their bachelors already.

Information is posted on the site...

Side note: some accelerated students drop down to the regular program, either voluntary or after failing a class.

The BAC/BSN program (accelerated) is very time consuming...hence why they recommend you don't have work. In my cohort (group) some work and some don't...no one works full time...at most 3 days a week...honestly you can tell by the grades by who works and who doesn't.

All in all, it's very do-able, you're just gonna be busy for the next 18 months...

Oh, darn! Thanks for the explainations, now I understand. Has anyone taken the new KAP entrance exam?

Yes I took the KAT test Nov.2 and passed it..... We took the whole test but they said they are only looking at Math and reading..... I thought it was really easy.... Anyways I'll give a run down on what I remember:

Math:

--- very basic stuff, lots of fractions... I also took the Hesi A2 for another school so I guess I had a lot of practice on that.... The KAT study guide had geometry but I don't remember seeing a geom problem.

Reading:

--- Again, very basic....

Science:

--- The study guide only helped on a few questions and honestly there was way too many info on the book to study

Sentence Structure:

--- This is where an essay is presented and you have to know what's wrong w/ it. It is multiple choice so that makes it easier..... but the study guide didn't prepare you at all for this type of test. But they said they're not looking at this section anyways...

So my advice is.... sign up for the test then ask them which section they are emphasizing on and focus on that.... I wish I can have back those 4 weeks that I spent reviewing the Science section of the KAT book which is well over half of it......

Wow! Thanks, Lizze818. That sounds very doable. I'm not exactly a math whiz, so I guess I need to start studying!

You guys have a lot of good information here. I'm currently taking my prereqs. When should I apply I still have 1 semester to go until I'm done?

I think, that once you start the application process they give you 60 days or something to take the entrance test. Maybe one of the others that has taken it recently can expand on that more. When I took it you could take it whenever. Then they changed it soon after I started. So if they give you a time period, then plan accordingly on when to take it, so that you're not rushed and have time to refresh on some of the content.

The math really isn't that bad, it's just you don't use it that often. I have a Bach in Accounting so math is one of my strong points, but when I first looked at the review book, I was like...uh when did I do this stuff last, seriously it was like 7th grade, going from fractions to decimals and back again, etc. But the review book is a good refresher!

sorry how long were the reading comprfehension passages and were the questionx in the reading comprehension difficul?

Hi all! I've also applied to Lewis & am scheduled to take the KAT on June 5th. I was really stressing baout it but after reading some of the input I'm starting to calm downa bit...LOL. I have the review book & will be cramming the next 3 weeks. As long as I pass I can start classes in the fall. Right now I'm finishing up Micro at COD. I think the only other pre-req I'll need is the Organic Chem. I'll find out more after the test though.

well actually dint make the cut off 4 the reading (was 3 points off) but was eventually admitted to three schools:UIC,NIU and illinois state university.Best of luck in ur exam

I'm sorry about the KAT test but congrats on getting into the other 3 schools! Do you know which one you'll pick??

Thanks.no bases 4 comparism.it going 2 be definately UIC

I have a couple of questions regarding Lewis that some of you might be able to answer.

1. Are they really as tough as they say on the 2.75 GPA for the accelerated BS to BSN? I'm a bit below that right now but might be able to improve it if I do well on the prerequisites. I've already been working in a clinical setting as a tech for the last 6yrs but I don't think it will help me in this program. I haven't sent an unofficial transcript yet so as long as I have all my prerequisites done and I'm above a 2.75 when I apply, I should be in correct? (I know I have to take the NET test too)

2. Does anyone commute from Chicago to the night classes? I was just curious how long it takes to get there when you have to be there by 6pm. That's prime rush-hour traffic when you're leaving the city and it could be a tough ride at that time of the day.

This program might the only fit for me since I already have another job. Do clinicals start towards the end or do you start them right away?

I appreciate any info.
