Level of Education = Work Preparedness? (school assignment)

hello everone!

i'm new to allnurses.com, but i have come across it several times in my random nursing student googling. i joined for some help with a school assignment dealing with nurses' education levels and how they feel it has prepared them for their current job.

i am to interview 3 different licensed nurses with different educational backgrounds, "determine how adequate the nurses feel their educational program prepared them for practice related to the responsibilities of their position (with examples); also include information related to their general place of employment (acute care, long term care, home health, etc) and their current position." feel free to post here or through a private message; please let me know if i need to clarify anything.

I work as a Nurse Educator in an acute care setting. Course work in writing course objectives, developing curriculum, writing test questions all are beneficial when writing learning modules and in preparing courses for continuing nursing education. Thanks to my degree program I am more prepared in finding appropriate references for learning modules and for writing hospital policies. Best of all, I have maintained contact with my instructors, one of whom was in my office today to discuss preceptorship of baccalaureate students by our nurses.

A paragraph like the one above would be fine, and greatly appreciated! I do need to know what kind of degree you received, how that degree program prepared you (or didn't prepare you) for the responsibilities of the position you sought, any examples for clarification, and what you currently do now.

Oh, and if the site allows, if you could include your initials (to protect your identification, yet allow me to turn in legit work), it would be a great help. I suppose I could make up initials for this assignment, but that wouldn't be very ethical of me..

I am an ASN-prepared RN, community college with a fantastic NCLEX pass rate. My education thoroughly prepared me for the real world of nursing. I felt very comfortable transitioning into my first Med/Surg position. Currently (10 years post-graduation), I run a pre-op clinic for a very busy ambulatory surgery center. We call all patients prior to their procedure (roughly 35-75 daily cases) and ascertain their health status, need for cardiac clearances, etc. We also counsel patients on their meds, diet, post-op needs, etc.

Thanks! I don't think we have a pre-op clinic in my area, but that sounds very useful. I'm sure patients feel more comfortable (and are safer) pre- and post-op with this service.

I do need clarification on classicdame's degree, and then one more helpful nurse to share his/her education and how it pertains to their job(s) after graduation and currently.
