i am a transfer student applying for Fall 2010. applied to most of the CSUs.
are these mandatory? does it depend on the school?
i read a lot of sources but they're all saying yes and no.

No, for the most part. I think you got to check out the website for each school to make sure. The CSUs that I applied for did not require letter of recs.
which CSUs did u apply for?

Letters of recommendation are not mandatory for CSUs.
If you are applying for their nursing schools or programs, then they may want you to have a letter as a part of their requirement or supplementary requirement.
CSUEB, SFSU, Sac State, and Chico and like what snake said I don't think any CSUs actually require letter of recs. I think that usually applies to private colleges.

CSU's in general do not need them but some nursing programs do require them, it just depends. Check the websites for the nursing program at each of the CSU's you are applying to!

SDSU did not require one, but I think it might be a good idea to have one in your file just in case. There might be a time where there is a cut off and it's between you and another person, and that letter might help. :)
