Well guys,
I got accepted to one of the programs I applied to. Now I just have to wait for UTMB....Problem is I am supposed to either accept/decline my spot in the first program by April 17....And Chances are I won't hear a peep from UTMB until after that. (deadline for all letters, acceptance/denial for utmb is may 1st) Why do they taunt me so?????
PS I got turned down for UT-Houston today, so hopefully UTMB will accept me. I would have to commute, but it would be worth it.
sorry to hear that, but you have other options so I wouldn't get too down about it. And remember...
Its their loss!!!!:icon_hug:
Thanks. Hopefully, we'll get into UTMB. If I don't, I will go the ADN route through HCC I guess. That's great you got into an ADN program. What HCC does is this: You apply for their ADN program. They then "invite" so many students to take their pharmacology class. (I was invited last year, but extended so I could go for my BSN) It is a major weed-out course. I've had straight A students tell me they felt they were being set up to fail in that class. Then, if you pass the class and get a 90% or better on their test, then you are put in a pool. The school picks nursing school candidates from that pool. Sounds like fun eh?
Just to add. The other night I was feeling sorry for myself and my dh asked me if I had to change my major, what would I pick? There was nothing else I wanted to do, so I had to brush myself off and keep plugging away. Thanks for all of your support.
That sounds a little crazy to me...I mean why accept people and then try to weed them out? Isn't that why they make is so hard to get IN to nursing school? hmmmmm...
Aren't there any other ADN programs around that you can apply for?
Yes, there are more schools for me to apply to - I would just have to take more prereq courses and/or entrance exams. That is the difficult part. Everyone has different entrance requirements, so one could spend years in college just meeting all of them. In addition, I have had to move to a different state twice (due to dh's job), thus kind of starting my education over due to new prereq requirements. And, finally, there was a three-four year period I could not go to class full-time, if at all, due to (1) ankle surgery, (2) two abdominal laparoscopies, (3) a total abdominal hysterectomy, (4) total abdominal oopherectomy. Whew! I'm finally fit as a fiddle and want to move on with my life - LOL ! Well, I'm at the end of my rope; however, I've tied a knot and I'm hanging on for dear life!

As someone who has lived in galveston for the last 9 years....
You have to know where the neighborhoods are. I live in a super great neighborhood over by UTMB. It mainly consisits of UTMB students/residents/older families that have lived there forever. I would say that there are about 8 to 9 great little neighborhood communities here on the island. Some are in better school districts then others. Don't get me wrong, house shopping in Galveston can be EXTREMELY scary. HA! But you have to think that these houses are NOT brand new...which means that they may need a little TLC ( they have withstood several hurricanes so you know they are built well) But fear not, galveston has its charms. You just may have to drive through the ghetto to get there thats all.
PM if you want more specifics.
