Come on Iowa!

Our message board is dead!! Let's get some discussions going for us lovely midwest folks!

Who do we have here? Students? CNA's? LPN's? RN's? APN"s?

How long have you worked in said position?

What is your specialty? What are some things you love about your job?

What do you hate about it or would change about it?

Any words of wisdom?

Funny nursing stories?

Specializes in HCA, Physch, WC, Management.

This board is a little slow but most of us "hang out" in other forums. I personally spend most of the time I am on here in the Student Nursing and General Nursing forums.

:nurse:

Who do we have here? I am a student at a community college in Eastern Iowa. I just got accepted into my school's ADN program and I start in August. I previously worked for four years as an HCA, which I enjoyed a lot.

How long have you worked in said position? I'm not currently working in a health care field.

What is your specialty? None yet and I have no idea what I want to do.

What are some things you love about your job? Hah. My current job, the only thing I really love are the people. And sometimes I really don't like them...

Any words of wisdom? Unfortunately I'm lacking in wisdom this evening. I've fallen sick AGAIN and need to get back to my studying.

Funny nursing stories? Not yet. Check with me in a couple years. :wink2:

Who do we have here? Nurse from Northeast Iowa, been nurse since 2000

How long have you worked in said position? Agency nursing per diem mostly for past 18 months, full time for past 12

What is your specialty? Med Surg I used to work in small critical acess hospital where you did everything! Did OB while there, am now in process of giving up ob, just not getting enough of it anymore.

What are some things you love about your job? The variety of facilities, no politics being agency nurse. Go and do my job and leave. Pay is better also

What do you hate about it or would change about it? I do miss my coworkers from my former full time job, they were a great bunch. Sometimes hate feeling "dumped" on.

Funny nursing stories? Baby born in stretch pants, before we could get mom into bed even.

hey i need a help so scared im lpn and first year lpn well i was told today by my administrator that i will be supenia in reference to a resident who i sent to the hospital could i lose my license if facuilty is guilty and who report to board

hi can someone answer a question for me im scared

Staceymj,

I take it that you're from Iowa since you're on the Iowa board. You probably would get help faster if you asked this question on the General Nursing Discussion board. More people read it & probably many have been subpoenaed and can give you tips. Just click on the "Forums" tab above & you'll find that forum.

Good luck. I'm new also so haven't run into this but from what I was taught in school, probably anyone who has signed her chart will be questioned. As long as you did nothing wrong & it's there in black & white, I'd suspect you'll be fine.

OKKKKK......

I was a CNA for two years....worked as an LPN for 7 months...and have been an RN for over two years now.

My speciality....well.....I have worked in med surg, hospice, long term care, rehab, PSYCH.....can't think of anymore right now....but I LOVE PSYCH

What do I love/hate...what whould I change...that completely depends on the day and the patient/doctor that I have for the day.

Words of wisdom....take a deep breath...count to ten...and don't kill anyone....it will all be okay in the end.

My funny nursing story....I had a tramatic brain injury vet who was watching a commerical of cealias (the spelling is wrong) ask me if I had ED (I'm a 23 year old female), then asked me if the medication that I was giving him was for a four hour erection......(it was a sleeping pill)...thats just the most recent funny nursing story.....

Specializes in too many to remember.

Who do we have here? RN since 2004, LPN from 97-04, CNA/EMT (military and civilian) before that. Currently work outpatient services.

How long have you worked in said position? not very long

What is your specialty? Jack of all trades! Really! I have been a nurse in the Army, LTC, management, med-surg, geri-psych, hospice, and now I am back in a hospital.

What are some things you love about your job? The hours and the pace. I'm never bored! I get to use most of my nursing skills.

What do you hate about it or would change about it? not much

Funny nursing stories? Oh my, I could write a book. Too many to choose from!

I love living and working in rural Iowa. Life is good.

Specializes in ICU, School Nurse, Med/Surg, Psych.

Who: master's prepared RN (graduated from U of IA graduate school '06)

Job: psychiatric home health RN for chronic mentally ill in Cedar Rapids

How long: I've been there a year, have been a nurse for 16 years.

what do I like: flexible schedule, low physical demand, daily make a difference

What do I dislike: extreme low pay (I could make more managing Dickie's BBQ), cleaning off the ice from my car to drive to work and then cleaning off the ice of the office car to drive around snow bound streets with people who should go to AZ for the winter!

Words of Wisdom: psychiatric nursing will help you to develope patience, listening skills and communication skills more than any other specialty that I have worked in (and that includes: medical, surgical, ICU, ER, dialysis, geriatrics, PACU and teaching)

I am a pre-nursing student. have 4 classes to go before applying to the nursing program at SCC in Bettendorf, Iowa. I am so excited to be a nurse. I want to either work with veterans (married to a Marine veteran) or peds (my twin nephews were in the neonatal unit for 3 months).

Specializes in OB/GYN,Family Practice, LTC.

Who do we have here? Started as a CNA in high school then went to Medical Assisting. After realizing I could handle the medical field I went on to practical nursing. Now an LPN for 10 yrs. I was strongly advised to continue to get my RN, but was burnt out with full-time college.

How long have you worked in said position? 10 yrs.

What is your specialty? Family Practice, doctors office. What are some things you love about your job? The experience I have gained (vaccines, meds, triaging, EHR, etc)

What do you hate about it or would change about it? My manager (i do not hate her by any means, but we need to clean house!). BTW, has anyone heard of Trimark Physicians Group? If so maybe we can form a support group?

Any words of wisdom? GO FOR UR RN. I have decided to go for my RN. I want more education, challenges and options.

Funny nursing stories? Cannot recall at the moment?
