Let's talk TRASH! Useless, outdated, OLD equipment or supplies on your unit, that is!

What's the most useless piece of equipment or stocked supply in your facility or on your unit?

What would you replace it with?

I thought of this thread when I was drawing up a 3 cc NS flush and thinking about how much easier and safer the pre-filled syringes are. So I wish we had pre-filled syringes.

And those emesis basins! Have you EVER known anyone to actually hit the thing without splashing or spraying all over the place? Completely useless! How about some larger-sized (or disposable--even the baggie-type might work better) emesis basins!

You are so funny!!!! I love your sense of humor. I always look forward to reading your posts. Love the little quotes too. Also I admire your level-headedness and intelligence. Good luck with your advancing to an RN. You will be a great one.

I work for a very high tech hospital with NEW everything.., they have remodled. ..........EXCEPT gowns and robes. They are so thin , it is embarrasing to put them on a patient, you can see through them! They even have the name of the hospital that it USED to be 10 years ago!!!

documed, any one seen one! The pyxis of 1930!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! meds are in little envelopes and you use a prod thing to get them out

I actually work at 2 different facilities that use documeds. We all call it the pyxis wantabe. Hey, it keeps us from having to go to pharmacy to get our meds.

Not equipment exactly but we have an old call light system that beeps when the patient didn't call and doesn't beep when a patient does call. This weekend it didn't make any noise at all we could just tell someone out of 27 rooms had a light on by the light above the nurses station. It could be anywhere down three different halls. I swear it must be illegal to keep that thing in a state of disrepair.

This isn't equipment as such either, but on nights we cannot get batteries should a pulse ox go dead. They are locked up apparently. They'll trust us with peoples lives, more meds than you can shake a stick at, but a couple of batteries are locked up like they're gold!
