What's up with hospitals these days? Why can't they be honest when sending a referral? We accepted a patient....today he showed up with orders for bariatric this and bariatric that, some nutritional supplement we've never heard of and a few other things they conveniently left off the referral.
I can't manufacture stuff I don't have. I can't order things on a moment's notice. If they had been honest with us, all the equipment would have been here before he arrived. It makes it hard for the staff and very hard for the resident.
Vent over.

Do you have someone that goes out for a face to face assessment? Sometimes that can be helpful in identifying what is already in use. Of course this assumes the person that goes out actually has enough experience to figure it all out. Had one building with an excellent Liasion for finding the missing pieces. Had another Liasion who had no clue a 400lb person would need bariatric equipment, why she should dig further if multiple psych meds, etc. Caused us quite a few hot messes.

Oh well, the admissions coordinator is making her quota for her bonus. And the hospital discharge coordinator did her job, too, moving out a difficult pt.

These are also the same so called professionals that find enjoyment in bad mouthing the LTC facility that was not prepared for the incoming resident because THEY did not give the full picture regarding the person.

Bariatrics are really easy once you understand the orders. The protein shakes are bought in the store. Talk to your don about having someone see the pts before accepting them
I AM The DNS. Our major referral source does all the referrals on line. We are not allowed to look at the person before we accept them. DesertRN, I understand all sorts of things, including MD orders. I do not like taking surprises...especially at 6:30 pm.
