HEY! This is my first post. I can't find anyone who is considering Lenoir community college nursing program. I am currently on the alternate list for both ADN & LPN PROGRAM. Lenoir is my first choice. Do I have a good enough chance of getting in? They won't say how many people are on there or what number i am. Also i know they take in 80 for ADN and atleast 30 for LPN according to the accredidation site that shows the max amount of students. Do they actually have that many in each program because i only see atleast 20 people for pinning last year and years before that maybe less.
FutureNurse ANB,
I was accepted into Lenoir's ADN program, I don't think there is a way of finding out your odds of getting in the program unfortunately. I took all of my pre reqs in CA which consisted of all my Bio's all the way up to Mico (CA has diff pre reqs compared to NC) I was only 2 classes away from an Associates so to make my package competitive I took the other classes to get an Associates in Arts. I also had a gap while waiting to turn in my package so during that time I got my CNA license, and as a plan B, back up I then got certified as an EMT. I wouldn't listen to other people on here who are talking Lenoir down. As any other pre req I took and people advised against that professor saying they were "hard" is only that person's perspective. I took many hard professors that people said were difficult and I might not pass there class, but I did. LCC may only have a 75% NCLEX passing rate however that can not fully be placed on the school alone, this is also the individual. I have been preparing for the NCLEX even before getting accepted into the program. If there is a will there is a way. Also the accreditation issue, the only reason LCC doesn't have that accreditation, I'm assuming is due to the CAA agreement in the state of NC. The community colleges do not need this accreditation because they are honored and Universities in the state of NC will accept them. I plan to transfer to the University of Mount Olive once I complete my ADN at LCC to get my BSN; Mount Olive is ACEN accredited. I have spoken with them already and they will honor all of my credits, there are other universities you can transfer to that fall under this agreement that will honor your community college. Don't let others make you think other wise, we're all here to support and help each other out, not scare and bring our hopes down. Try not to stress over the waiting list and in the time being come up with a plan B to fall back on, and one that will beef up your package for next time around if that's the case (CNA, EMT). Good luck ~Gayle
Thank you for that info because I was hesitant of applying to Lenoir after reading some comments. I will have all my pre reqs completed by the deadline except I haven’t taking an ethics class. I have CNA & currently working as a phlebotomist for the last 8 years. Do you think I have a chance. All of my pre reqs are a’s & b’s. I am also applying to other schools as well. How many students do Lenoir take in each fall?
Hi Prenure2020, I would say your pkg sounds good, but you cant know what your other competitors have. I had all B's for my pre reqs, but I think what made my pkg strong was my other licenses and my associates. I also transferred all my credits to Lenoir and took 2 classes that would go toward there nuring program an Eng and my last PSY. I feel this showed loyalty to the college. I did not apply to any other colleges I put all my hopes in Lenoir. This was my approach. Just try not to worry so much about it, although thats hard to do. Also knowing how many they accept is nice to knkw but it only just adds stress, so forget about that. Always have your backup plan and apply for both ADN and LPN programs. I did, I was accepted into both, and obviously accepted the ADN program. Good luck!
In addition to looking into how many Studenrs LCC accepts into the ADN each Fall, look into what percentage fail/drop out of the program. This is something you need to consider for any program. You also need to look into the percentage pass rate the program has for passing NCLEX (below 85% is unacceptable) and if they are accredited by ACEN. This is completely different from the college being accredited. Associate programs have their own accreditation and if you graduate from unaccredited program then you won’t be able to work at a military or VA hospital and some states won’t endorse your license should you move. Just because a program is approved by the NCBON does not mean the nursing program is accredited. Pitt and Carteret are accredited. LCC is not Consider everything before putting eggs into one basket. It is not accredited and most people to graduate from there pass their nclex on the first try, it may be a little hard though but all nursing schools are it’s not a bad school though other than not being accredited.
Pass rates, NCLEX rates....If schools had 100% pass rating then something is wrong with it, because students don't pass or not a lot of them do, then that tells you it's challenging, that doesn't mean that the school is bad. When I took microbiology everyone advised me against the prof I picked, but I had no other choice but to take her, they said she fails everyone...it was true that she was tough and only 12 of us ended up finishing the class but I was able to finish, and with a B. I can not say for a fact why most community colleges aren't accredited, bc the 4 that are close to me are not, there is only 1 that is. But the CAA agreement honors all community colleges who receive an ADN in Nursing to their university to continue on to get their BSN and they are accredited. All accreditation is, is supervision from a higher source and yes its important, but the school also has to pay to keep that accreditation so this MAY be the reason why they don't have accreditation....it's not that the school is bad.
This is what happens to schools who do not have a high NCLEX pass rate (means the school isn't teaching as well as they should or that they are allowing students who cannot think critically to pass program)
NCBON does not ACCREDIT nursing programs. They simply APPROVE them. ACCREDITATION is given by ACEN.
One thing that LCC is known for, is the ability to break down nursing students with attitudes who do not listen and make assumptions. After the Orientation, let us know how it goes. LOL I bet half of you won't be in the program after 3rd semester. My friend and coworker went there and I heard about students failing (a fail is less than 76% at LCC whereas it is less than 80% at CCC) a test, with tears streaming their faces, they leave the room, never to be seen again because they were officially kicked out of the program.

You should look up NC NCLEX pass rates. LCC is only 75%
