....New grads in mind. Some of us were given 2-3 days (in a LTC setting) while others somehow get a few weeks. How much is normal? How much is fair? I'm kind of annoyed because I have just spend 4 days painstakingly orienting this new grad BSN who ever so causally stated that she's dropping this job asap if she gets hired at the hospital. She has gotten several other days with other staff members, too. It's gonna take like a month of our time.

I got 3 weeks for my LPN LTC position. I still wish I had more because there was so much I didn't know at the end of the 3 weeks. Still, I am grateful they gave me that 3 weeks and not 2-3 days.

I graduated a year ago. All the new grads I know are working in LTC. I was thinking of trying for a LTAC position, because the hospitals around here are barely hiring anyone - let alone new grads. BSN or not. The LTAC nearby only gives 6 shifts of orientation too. Most area LTCs and SNFs give only 3 days orientation. I think it's too short. Tried explaining the 'real world' to the new grad and she seems to be under the wrong impression, that there aren't a million other new grad BSNs competing for the same hospital job she was speaking of. The BSN doesn't give much weight to a new grad from what I can tell...
