left handed

ready to quit it all down so low I need a stepladder to reach hell. I just don't know the secret of the tests. I memorize the chapter but facts don't seem to be any of the answers. I have been told that left handed peopl just don't get it. guess its true I'm left handed.

huh..okay, I'll bite.

One of my favorite class buddies is left handed and kicking my butt in almost every category...and I am making As in most things (he just makes *higher* As..and rubs it in :chuckle )

You have to learn how to apply your facts. You know that gasoline makes your car run..what do you do with that knowlege?*

*Answer: Scrape change from the lining of your couch cushions to put enough in your tank to make it to class.

Try getting an NCLEX review book and practicing with it before your tests.

Do a web search for something like "tips on taking nursing tests" or "tips for nclex".

Something someone said on here has stuck in my brain like superglue and been extremely helpful: "If you are asking 'what if?', you are not answering MY question." (Thanks to whomever posted that).

Don't spend a lot of time going back and rethinking answers and changing them, but DO take enough time to really read the question and be sure of what is actually being asked/identify the meat from the distractors.

Set an appointment with one of your instructors to go over your test and ask their advice. It's what they're there for. It's what you paid that unGodly amount of money in tuition for.

Oh..and pray, and set up your shrine to the testing Gods, don't forget your lucky Spongebob pencil, and wear the same pair of underwear for each test. Hey, it can't hurt! :chuckle

Real scientific studies suggestthat left handed people ae actually smarter... I believe it. Those I know who are left handed are generally pretty brilliant.

You ned to learn your instructors method of test creation, and do not read too much fact into it. and you probably know to go with your first instincts.. they are usually right!

Well I don't know about being all that brilliant but it is very easy to memorize those practice tests to bad they don't use those

I'm left-handed too! I'm making A's and have done well on the tests. BUT this is my senior year, and it's getting easier because I am finally learning how to take these tests!

Your problem isn't being left-handed, put that out of your mind, has nothing to do with anything. You CAN do this! Is this your first semester? It's hard at first because the tests are like no other tests we've ever taken before! Like the others have said.... go talk with the professors! That's what they're there for!

Memorizing the practice tests? NO NO NO! You can't just memorize the information and just spit it back out during the tests. You have to UNDERSTAND the information, comprehend it, and know how to APPLY it during the tests. You have to know how the stuff works, why it works, and how to apply it in certain sitations. Memorization alone won't work.

LOL!! That sounds just like me! I have to use the same pencil for every test! And then if I don't do well on a test then I throw it away and start with a new one for next time lol. Hmmm, don't wear the same underwear for each test .... but now that you said that now I'm gonna have to!! LOL

Sheeesh, see what nursing school does to us?!

Go find someone to give you a hug, have a good cry, kick something, then buck up and ask yourself what *you* are going to do to fix this. "Not meant to be" is only valid when you've tried EVERYTHING in your power. Worrying, venting, and complaining about it will make you feel better for a little while, but you've got to take action to FIX the problem. You can't change the way the tests are written, but you CAN learn how to take them..use some of those resources I mentioned..so focus on what YOU can do. Being pro-active always makes ya feel better :)

I failed my meds checkout last week. I came here, had a pity party for myself, bawled my eyes out for awhile, then put things into perspective. I can't make my instructors standardize the requirements for checkouts. It certainly sucks, but they are NOT going to change it for me. So..I spent two hours today practicing, and will continue to practice every single day until my next checkout (Foleys this time). If I fail, it certainly won't be because I didn't take action. If I do happen to fail this time though..I'll try to figure out what else I can do. I want to be a nurse THAT BAD.

Good luck to you :)
