Lee College - ADN Program - Fall 2017

Published

Hello, are there any applicants for the Fall 2017 ADN Program at Lee College in Baytown, TX? If so, what step in the application process are you currently in? Currently I am awaiting the arrival of my Blue Card, but have successfully turned in my application on January 5th and successfully tested for the HESI the first week of March. I am curious as to when the nursing office begins calling people back regarding acceptance into the program?

P.S. if anyone has any questions regarding the HESI A2 exam, feel free to ask me about any concerns you may have. I just took it, and passed it with an overall 90%. I have plenty of tips and information I could share regarding the HESI.

Congrats to you too! Going to get my packet tomorrow. So excited!

** UPDATE **

Just picked up my packet from Ms. Nicole. There were numerous others people there for the same reason. Therefore, I am not sure if they finished calling people back already because one of the main forms must be turned in by May 18, 2017. So it can only be presumed that they will not be calling anyone anymore past May 18. Then again, this is just an assumption made by the due dates on the forms in the packet.

The packet is a little overwhelming but just read it slowly and thoroughly. The blue sheet seems to be the check list guide and is extremely helpful. On a side not, I just discovered from the packet that two of our family members must attend a Nursing Family Boot Camp in August (they must be adults).

Not sure if anyone on here has not gotten the call yet (or have friends/ peers who haven't been accepted yet)...Just wanted to let everyone know not to worry! Ms. Nicole told me last week that the department has to meet one more time near the end of May to decide who will be the last ones to be accepted. If you've had to repeat any science classes, failed pharm and have to retake it over the summer, or have BON paperwork that must be formally reviewed- then you will be included in this group. They do this to make sure those who have to take pre-reqs during summer or have BON paperwork that takes a while to process have time to get registered for summer or approved by hospitals (depending on what your specific requirements are). Tell your friends and peers not to worry just yet! If you haven't gotten a call by the first week of June... then you may want to call! Good Luck!

yes i felt over whelmed as well, now i need to find a place to get my titers done.

@lillie1226

I felt the exact same way. Hopefully, we get all of this done with no problems and on time.

Good luck on finding a place for your titers. I wish had some suggestions for you but I just set up an appointment with my PCP to get titers, lab work, and physical done but my insurance through my job ends at the end of this month and I'm going to have to look at other options for health insurance for the program requirement. Do you by any chance have any suggestions on insurances. Ms. Bea suggested a High-Deductible Insurance but I looked into a few of those and the deductible amounts are ridiculous! And with my luck, I would be the one to end having to use the insurance :down:

@Mrs.Maynard, Rn

You seem to have a lot of knowledge on the program, thank you so much for all your input; it is greatly appreciated. With that being said, do you by any chance have any suggestions on health insurance requirements for the program that won't cost us an arm and leg?

Thank you in advance.

Good Morning!

I got my vacs and titers done at Deer Park family Clinic and paid nothing with my insurance- normally it would have been about $250 (they run $50-$100 each). There are lots of low cost titers in the area- just do a google search. I did mine in Deer Park because I hate heavy traffic, this place takes my insurance and is near my house.

Now, what I know about insurance:

If you live at home and are under the age of 24, you are normally still eligible to be on your parents' insurance. If you are not so fortunate, there are still options... If you are working and your job offers insurance, get it! Even if it's crappy, sign up for it anyways- you just need coverage (it doesn't have to be "good" coverage!).If it is too expensive- still more options... You can call 211 (if you are female, not sure about males-sorry guys!) and sign up for Women's Health. You may also apply for Medicaid under Obamacare if you have children (there is no longer an age limit on this). Medicaid used to be for pregnant/ nursing women and children only, but under Obamacare it is available to everyone (it is no longer free, but my daughter's is only $36/month).

Now, with that being said- know this: if you don't have any better options, sign up for Medicaid- but from experience I will tell you that NO regular doctors will accept it! You pretty much can use it at free/ low cost clinics or at emergency rooms. This is fine if you are a generally healthy person because any treatment that you need that isn't an emergency, you will probably end up paying cash for to see a regular doctor. I was on Medicaid for 2years (a few years ago), and I carried this insurance because it was the law, but I just ended up paying cash for doc. visits because NOBODY would take the Medicaid. The insurance is fine for nursing school, just don't expect it to cover non-emergencies!

Labcorp (any location) will do a bundle (all 4) titer for $140 if you tell them your in a nursing program. Includes Hep A, Hep B, MMR, and Varicella. Found this info on the San Jac Nursing website. There are also several other places- none are in Baytown though...

@Mrs.maynard,RN

Do you happen to have info on the mobility exam? If anyone knows anything about it or someone who has taken it please share! I turned in my application and was told after reviewing applications they will be calling for mobility testing in June.

@Mrs. Maynard,RN

Thank you for the information and the link í ½í± As always you are extremely helpful and appreciated!

@Mschatman

Let us know as soon as you get a call. The office said they re-review the applications at the end of May once more and I know two other school mates that applied as well that are still waiting to hear back.
