I was hired as a new grad in the OR to be a circulating nurse. I was really excited at first, but I quickly figured out this was not the area for me at this time in my life. I think part of it has to do with the hospital, and part of it has to do with the environment...Crabby doctors (yes, I know they're everywhere, but in the OR you're stuck with them in the room), and poor communication throughout the unit. Also, even though it's been a great experience, I feel I'm missing out on learning all the basic nursing skills. So, I've applied for a couple med-surg positions (I know I'll be stressed out here too, but I've gotta try!) and got a job offer literally the day I came off orientation. I am super excited to move and start this new journey! However, orientation in the OR is 6 months...I feel SO bad and terrified to give 2 weeks notice because we are short on nurses, and i JUST came off. I know the unit is going to be talking about me behind my back. How can I deal with this and how can I go about giving my 2 weeks? Any advice is welcomed! Ah

Just do it. Happens all the time in our OR. Don't worry about what they're going to say. Just tell them you don't like it and it's not a good fit but you've learned a lot and appreciate the opportunity but you're moving on. Some may be upset or frustrated but most will understand and wish you well. I'm much happier in med-surg than I was in the OR! Good luck!
