Doesn't it just drive you insane when someone tells you that Mr. Smith's O2 STAT is 96%?
It's O2 SAT people! Sat, short for saturation. I even hear respiratory therapists saying this. I am sooooo tempted to say something next time, but I know it's just petty, so I needed to vent here. Thank you.
You have a wonderful sense of humor, and it's great to work with doctors who understand and can laugh, too!
aw thanks!
i cant stand to work with people, esp. docs, that have no sense of humor. i will do things just to drive them nuts then....just for the fun of it
(evidently me sitting here trying to learn the correct way to say lEEvaquin is driving my husband craxy, lol...he told me to hush, lol)
It does not pay to laugh at someone who does not pronounce a word correctly. Let us not have the 'holierthan thou' attitude as in this case the doctor might have wrongly pronounced or spelled the drug's name but definately there are loads of medical stuff that he knows more than the one laughing her head off on a single distorted word. We all have different ethnic background and this makes it quite difficult to pronounce some of the letters for example, I have always struggled to pronounce words with 'sh' because we do not have a single word with sh in our language ,so aword such as 'shame' to me would be something like'same' dependig on the context!! So please do not kill yourself with laughter when I struggle to come up with such words!! let us learn to accommodate each other instead of condemning over flimsy reasons. My spellings are usually good despite my pronounciations.

I don't ever consider an ESL's inability to pronounce a word a mispronunciation. ("V" is an example of a big problem for some ESLs.) I also know that words will be changed and/or left out, depending on the speaker's native language. (The words "the" and "he/she" come to mind.) I also don't care about the long E or short E in Levaquin, or the difference in syllable emphasis in metoprolol. Those aren't mispronunciations to me. The intent of the speaker is clear when he or she says those drugs either way.
