LDRP RN Scrub nurses get differential?

Hello everyone!!

We are upcoming on our contract year at our hospital and in the middle of negotiations. I am wondering for those RN's that are scrub trained and capable of going to the OR for c-sections or other procedures. Do you receive differential pay for this? The nurses on our FBC are advocating for this because it is an additional skill set, and training. If you do can you please tell me how much diff you receive and what hospital/location you work at? Thanks so much!!

Scrub or circulate? Not that it matters, I guess. I've worked at multiple hospitals and never have the nurses received a differential for being able to go to the OR. It was considered part of the job for L&D. They received additional training/orientation, but no additional formal education or certifications are required to go to the OR.

At my hospital all labor nurses are trained to circulate for c-sections and we have our own OB ORs. The main OR nurses are not involved in our c-sections unless it's also a trauma patient (ie, serious MVA that needs a stat but the mom also has other surgical needs). Our PCA's are all trained to scrub. A couple nurses can scrub (because they used to be PCAs on the floor, or they have worked here so long that they started when only nurses could scrub). Since I have been working here I have only seen a nurse scrub in once, because the PCA went home sick and we had a stat. It was a little rough because she hadn't scrubbed in years, but we made it work.

To answer your question, no we don't pay a diff for nurses that are trained to go to the OR, because we're all expected to. They don't pay a diff to the nurses that are able to scrub either, but we rarely use them to scrub anyway.

I have been trying to advocate for additional pay for RNs assigned the scrub duties for the day. I get some support from nurses but at this point no extra pay, and we scrub a lot.
