hi guys. i need some help. i am a graduate of nursing in the philippines last 2007 and I took nclex in california state in 2008. unfortunately i failed that exam. now i want to take the exam again but in vermont. do i still have to present some documents that i took the nclex exam for california in applying for vermont?. does anybody know where we can get a temporary ssn to take it?. im confused on where to start my application since my sister did the process of my application before.

There is no such thing as a "temporary SSN". The only way to get a US SSN is to be a citizen, legal permanent resident or be issued a work authorization visa. If you do not have a valid-for-work SSN your application to VT, just like CA and quite a few other states, will be rejected without refund of fees paid.
thanks for the info. so it means i don't have a chance to retake the exam? do you have any idea how to get the results? i lost the letter and i tried to google it and no answers found..=(

Yes, without providing a SS# that's work authorized, you're wasting good money to get rejected and there's no refund of any of the fees once the BON opens your application package (processing) and sees there's no SS# on the form.
You will be given time (I'm not sure of how many months or years) to complete your application that was rejected for not giving them a SS# or else, like in CA, once the third year of your application date has expired and you've done nothing to solve the problem, they will simply "abandon" your file.
Then everyone else ask what state can I take the NCLEX-RN without a SS#? Many have gone to OR or TX, but the bigger problem is even if you get the RN license issued to you, any US employer (from McDonald's to hospital to nursing home etc) needs you to give them that needed SS# (or work visa)
Keep in mind, do you wish to work and practice in OR or TX or any other state if you're allowed to get the license without having to give them a SS# and worry later about how to get a SS# or work visa?
Recognize that once you have been issued a license without giving the BON a SS#, you have so many years to actually "complete" your license before having to re-take the NCLEX again (such as CA's eight (8) year limitation.
If you don't get your SS# before the 8th year of expiration, you MUST re-take the NCLEX-RN again, it's clearly on the CA BRN website. You need to inquire with whatever state you're interested in to ask about this requirement, as each state has different standards.

thanks steppybay. i really am eager to take the exam. so I dont want to kill my vibe now. one of my colleague's agent advise me to take a look over texas, florida and new mexico. so far and im still looking at it. I'm thinking about florida because i want to work there.I researched on new updates on nclex and i was surprised i had a lot of things to review now. any suggestions for this 3 states?
I believe that NM requires a SS# to apply, just like CA. FL may allow without a SS#, but will NOT release the license until you provide them with the SS#, FL may have changed the SS# requirements (have you looked at FL BON application?), TX like FL may allow the exam taking not sure if TX will release the license without the SS#.
But ultimately, even if any of the states released the RN license to you, what will you do on the job hunt and offered a nursing job, only to be asked for a copy of your SS# before hiring?
